Goodfortitude
Every time I install FCOM, even if I follow fivefries install guide, I always have at least a few of those stupid yellow exclamations that show up in game, particularly with some bows. Right now I"m having the "classic bow" and "seagull bobkins" not show up. I think those are a part of Frans but not sure. Does anyone know exactly what causes this, so that I can stop doing that. Since my Hard Drive crashed, I now have to re-install FCOM... such a pain. thanks
DavidBudreck
The cause is missing meshes (the .nif files in your data\meshes\xxx folders). Fixing it can be tricky if you don't know exactly what mod the missing meshes are from. So, step one would be to use a tool called Refscope to determine that: http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=21862 Once you know which mod is causing the trouble, examine the archive from the download carefully, and make sure you have copied all the meshes and textures to their proper locations in your Data folder. The folder paths of these files is VERY important; that's how the game looks for and finds it's resources. If, for instance, your mod says that a "classic bow" is located in Data\meshes\SomeFolder\ClassicBow.nif -- and the file is not there, then that causes the Yellow Diamonds. If, for instance, the ClassicBow.nif file says look in Data\textures\SomeFolder\ClassicBow.dds -- and the file is not there, that's when you end up with purple objects. Purple is what Oblivion has decided is it's default color when it can't find the texture.

Goodfortitude
wow, Refscope sounds awesome. I was hoping for something like that. thanks David. I'll give that a try and let you know how it goes. Apparently, I'm really bad at getting all my meshes in, because I've never even seen the purple ones... Goodfortitude
well, the classic bows are a part of fcom_realswords. But, I'm also missing some gold coins, which are, of course, part of oblivion.esm.... what does that mean? I use Boss for my load order also. DavidBudreck
You cannot be missing meshes from Oblivion.esm; these are all safely contained within the Oblivion.bsa Archive. However, several mods have modified gold coins because the vanilla God coins don't look very much like gold and aren't particularly shiny like Gold should be. But, if I had to take a guess, I would say you just picked up the wrong thing in Refscope; it's not the gold that is the problem (if it is telling you it is from Oblivion.esm), but some other item that is causing the diamonds that is close to the reference of gold coins. Goodfortitude
nope, it's definitely the gold. I checked each one individually and even looked real closely to the table and sure enough, no gold peices. I can't explain it though. I also found several more skeleton meshes associated with OOO and MMM that weren't available... so, i'm now doing a fresh install of everything. But, still appreciate any insights as it is still helpful. And, yes, I do install other mods along with fcom, however, this time, I am going to go through and install each one individually after I get plain FCOM up and running, so that I can determine which/what might be a problem. Goodfortitude
o.k. I got fcom up and running great now... one thing I did was I did not mark "Leveled lists." Also, I installed MMM public release instead of 37 beta 1. That would explain a lot. So, now to just install the few extras I have like Immersive Interface and Eric's Crafting Mod for FCOM. One thing I'm still not clear on though is, is Eric's Crafting supposed to be bashed along with the bash patch and THEN placed after the patch in load order? Or, is it NOT to be bashed at all?
