Windows XP 32bit or Windows XP 64bit

Recommended Posts

Firstly - There are only a handful of Intel Celeron processors that actually have 64-bit compatibilty, so you'd need to look more in-depth into the matter.

Secondly - As has been previously stated by others, Windows XP (64-bit) is fairly buggy and has ALOT of compatability issues especially with games.

Thank you all for your answers to my question! :thanks:

Now I have more things to consider after reading your posts.

My only wish for now is to get the best performance with my current hardware configuration.

I need a new PC, with out a question, but for now I must to stick with this one.

My plans are to begin with modeling for Oblivion, for my personal satisfaction, and maybe one day present my work to TesNexus.

I love to play Oblivion and I learn so much just reading posts in this forum, now it is time to try something on my own.

THANK YOU!!!!

:thanks:

EDIT by LHammonds: English corrections.

If that's all you're wanting, you're probably better off with XP 32. Been noticing that the CS has been crashing upon save more often with Windows 7.

The CS crashes upon save in Win7? Oh no! I only just installed the CS but have yet to fire it up.

If that proves to be a point of irritation for me as well, I will see if "XP Mode" will reduce the problem (only available on Pro and Ultimate editions I think).

The next line of defense for that issue would be to run it in a virtual desktop. I just downloaded VMWare Player so I can setup WinXP 32-bit for any apps that don't play well in Win7.

As a final suggestion to re-enforce the general idea that you should stick with WinXP 32-bit for now, the best thing you can do to increase performance is to format the drive and re-install XP from scratch. If at all possible, don't install MS Office products which tend to affect performance on PCs that are already feeling growing pains.

Well, it seems to be more common atleast. Before I could load up a mod which contained some parts that linked to missing references and either just click through the warnings and save, or mark it for ignore and save. So far I've had to clear out everything with Tes4Gecko before I could save.

My biggest problem actually came from using Photoshop CS 4 and 3dsmax 8 with the 64 bit version. The DDS plugins didn't want to register for photoshop or work with 3dsmax, so had to search around for some fixes. The niftools exporter also had problems locating my install directory and placed itself uselessly in Root C:. But I managed to fix these as best as I can tell. 3dsmax 8 still doesn't like _g maps and some of the more unusual .dds configurations though.

Do you have the option to run it in XP compatibility mode and have you tried it? Also, have you tried running the CS as administrator?

Vagrant0: No

Did you install both programs to someplace other than the default "Program Files" folder?

Vagrant0: No, but I made sure I was using the version installed to the 32 bit program files directory.

Thank you for your effort to correct my post, I am not native in English that is the reason for my mistakes.

Once more thank you, I will tray to correct my English. :thanks:

EDIT by LHammonds: No problem. It is obvious English is not your native language but I am 100% positive you are doing better in English than I ever could in your native language. ;)
