Kasey24
Hey guys, Suppose you have some armor that has +5 bonuses to your skills or attributes. As you progress through the game and can get new armor that is rated higher say 6 vs. 4 (for the enchanted stuff) - how do you determine which armor gives you the best chance of survival? I guess the real question becomes whether there is a formula for figuring out whether a stronger set of armor (or weopon) is preferable to an enchanted item of lower armor class. Anyone have a way to figure this out? Thanks.
Vagrant0
I guess the real question becomes whether there is a formula for figuring out whether a stronger set of armor (or weopon) is preferable to an enchanted item of lower armor class.Nope, no formula, depends mostly on what you're wanting to do. Defense increases only help when you are hit by something. Weapon choice is similar as weapons have different advantages and disadvantages, longer, slower weapons can be useful for keeping enemies away, and smaller, faster weapons can be useful for quick bursts of damage. Enchantments are the same way. Weapon enchantments in particular can be useful against things which are resistant to normal damage, reflect damage, or are weak to a particular element. Some of the more unusual enchantments, like burden, can be useful against heavily armored foes (provided you have no encumbrance mods), or are just a good alternative to silver/elven/daedric when dealing with spirits when you don't want to deplete other enchanted weapons. Most of it is just however your playstyle dictates and whatever feels right to you.
Hididety
I always grab the highest rated armor until level 20 or so. I do this because at around that level ebony glass and daedric become way more common, and I have sigil stones saved up to enchant it with what I want. Weapons are the same way unless there is some uber enchant like 40 damage or some thing then I'll keep it for a while.
Unavi
aah the biggest problem i face in Oblivion....i can't bring myself to drop my old enchated armor and take the blood-drencth shiny armor from a fallen bandit. At the end i usualy get stuck with both of them and a lot of feather potions (or skooma :P)

That's what display cases and mannequins are for. ;) Admittedly, the house mod I use has none of either, but I use two wardrobes to store clothes and armor.
