2 New Issues

Lately I just got back to playing Oblivion after a while of not playing and since then it worked fine and I haven't downloaded any mods between then and now. But I came up with two new issues upon playing it just now:

1. If I try to go inside any cell-changing place (building, fort, etc.) all I get is a black screen of death. It's not the one where you can move around but just not see anything but it's like it fails to even do the loading process.

2. This is a lesser problem, but my quality settings appear to not be saving when I edit them in-game, and I fear this will continue.

backup your oblivion.ini file in your "My Games" folder in your Documents, then delete the ini file. Then run the Normal Oblivion launcher to rebuild the ini file. and try that.

 

And from your load order, it doesn't seem like your using Wrye Bash or OBMM, or BOSS. Are you?

 

if your using Wrye Bash, your Bashed Patch, 01.esp is missing.

 

I would run BOSS to sort your load order....

First I highly recommend DSoS advice regarding load order. You absolutely need a Bashed Patch for your game and your load order sorted.

 

Second - disable Autosaves altogether. They are known to cause save corruption and the problem you describe. Also disable save on rest. Some will suggest the same for Quicksave, but I use it all the time with no problems. I just delete it regularly and create a new one. Make sure to make hard saves often and don't overwrite them. Create a new save each time. You can have a virtually unlimited number and it's better than losing hours of progress.

 

Third - to save your settings changes from within the game open the console and type "saveini" without the quotes. Then if the game happens to crash the changes you made will be saved.
