DoctorKaizeld
so when ever I try to start NV the game just freezes at the Start up screen and I have to force quit out of it. I am not using any mods, I also have reinstalled my game several times. I use a windows 8 Dell pc laptop. the game used to run just fine. I don't know what changed. anybody think they can shed some light on this?
Aolorn
Had similar problem on Win 7. I tried to switch it into Windowx XP SP3 compatibility mode and now it runs fine, maybe it will help you

Rt240
I was having the same problem. The game would freeze with and without mods. Having Steam check the local files always resulted in needing to download one or two new ones. Been trying for a week using everything short of voodoo. I think I finally found a solution though. My game has been consistently starting, with no trouble, after disabling the bloody Raptr program. Disabling the in-game functionality also works. So if you have that running either turn it off or disable the in-game features. Hope that helps. Edited May 30, 2014 by Rt240
DoctorKaizeld
where do you find Raptr?
bben46
Crash on start is usually caused by a missing master or missing NVSERun BOSS or LOOT ( I now prefer LOOT)READ the messages - they will often tell you what is missing. Raptr is made more for online type gaming to allow talking between players - as this is a single player game, unless you are actually doing something with it ( ???) close it to get a bit more stability, memory and a bit better performance. Rapter claims to optimize you game, but if you already use the Nvidia 'Gforce Experience' or the similar Radeon program that automatically sets your game to what they consider 'optimum' program - they may conflict. IM programs ( And IM is the primary focus of Raptr) can cause crashes by checking for new messages during particularly intense gaming - by stealing CPU cycles to check just when you need them the most. Numbnumb
Check to see if the game has been optimized for Windows 8. Edited June 3, 2014 by Numbnumb
