The noble lady who took her in was pretty nice, I'll give you that.Leliana speaks fondly of it tho, from which one can gather that french nobility is about appearances and wealth (while fereldens start wars about a tree and antivans just hire the crows against each other). - Riordan is not from Orlais. When you talk to him he says that he was sent to investigate because he was a native Fereldan. Riodan is part of Orlesian's wardens and has been there enough time to get the accent, he's pretty much a foreign legion soldier stereotype. - About Ferelden smelling like wet dog...I thought it was only Marjoline that said that, but I had a conversation with Sten today and he said the same thing!And as a dwarf (noble or otherwise), and with Zevran, and on half of the codices that mention ferelden; even wynne complains about the smell. You can also compare the displayed wealth in say, the human noble origin, with the one shown in the dwarven or the mage origins (from which one could assume that the chantry affords similar luxury, more so in Orlais).
