lykanthrus
Hi. I've come across a strange problem. My character Theron has a 78+6 combat with swords ability. However even against a very weak opponent in all stats. I can't for the life of me hit the broad side of a barn. Miss, miss, miss, and when i do hit the strikes are 4-8 points of dammage, no matter what the weapon. I do have plenty of endurance . However Theron often stops fighting even if he's at full Fatigue, Health and uneffected by spells. Also abilities such as shield bash vanish from the quick menu without any reason. Thanks. Balagor
What about dexterity? It´s very important to actually hit things. Strength is only a messure of dammage done WHEN you hit.
TGBlank
Balagor, in dao, str gives as much "attack" (that is, chance to hit) as dexterity. As for the OP, i'm afraid you'll have to give us more info, is this new? does it only happen with this character? are you using mods? what mods?. lykanthrus
Hello and thanks for the help. This does occur to the other players. However far less often. I often check their stats during combat. I checked my dexterity and it's 28, so that explains things a little. However this all started when the game started acting funny during "the fade"quest in the circle of mages. The game would stop saving either to a new save game or an overwrite. The files were never written to the HD even if the game showed that it did save. I have to exit the game and reload the last good save game which puts me back quite a bit. I then noticed twice that the five most recent same games were claimed as being corrupted when loaded. Always on the ashes quest between redcliff and Haven. I started to save then reload the same game to see if it saved properly. I don't have the antivirus active when i'm playing, nor do have have an active internet connection. No mods installed, just a purist installation. As for the save games problem. It seems to occur when one of the group has not sheathed their weapon after combat has ended. Does that help? If DAO is based on the AD&D scales then i should be much more advanced than i am at the moment. P.S. I could not finish the ashes quest as the quest log would not update. Now i'm on the Oresimar quests.
TGBlank
"If DAO is based on the AD&D scales then i should be much more advanced than i am at the moment." It's not. Also, again, str affects attack as much as dex. Your attack score is the only thing used when determining to-hit chances, and it's (str + dex - 10)/2 + misc bonuses/penalties. The sheathing thing is throwing some light into the issue. Have you noticed the game growing slower and slower to load and to do area transitions when the save corruption and assorted issues happens?. lykanthrus
As far as the load times vs save problems. The transition load times between travel locations sometimes looks like it's stalling. I would get the usual golden arrow on a black screen then if i wait over a minute it starts showing a "loading" message at the bottom right of the black screen. Also has the writting feather flying across the "loading" text. Sometimes the load screen with the blood flow animation and the rotating mandella seems awfully slow. I checked what you asked and the slow transition load times do not effect the saves. I did just notice that two of my recent saves are gone from the load list. No errors detected. It may also interest you to know that as in one of my other postings on here. My ~ console never worked and i have tried many console commands. Unless this game is not compatible with windows 7 64bit. Which is the only other problem cause i can come up with. Windows 7 does have some problems with Oblivion (*32) bit applications. However no where near as severe as DAO.
TGBlank
The slow load is a sign of memory leak, basically, the application keeps growing in memory use as you play until the pc starts running out of it. It's easily fixed by exiting the game and loading again.Memory leak could also be a factor in your save/disappearing stuff problems, i haven't heard of dao/w7 64b incompatibility, but you could try running dao in compatibility mode and see if that makes a difference. billypnats
your save game or maybe a file is corrupt, DA works with win7 x64 with no problems, as for the slow loading times maybe you're using texture mods, or maybe your RAM is not quite high enough, but everytime that my game slows down I just alt-f4 and play again. Nothing in the game should only make u do 4-8 damage and you shouldn't miss 80% of the time unless someone is misdirection hexing you, but that shouldn't happen very often. With that said, have you, at all, fondled with the toolset? If you have... I think you should find the dragon age folder in your documents folder, go to modules, single player, and if there is a singleplayer.(something) file, delete it (into recycling bin!!! so you can recover it later in case it stops working)
Balagor
You say that your ~console never worked! Do you happen to be at an European location? If so read my attached file, or read the thread:http://thenexusforums.com/index.php?showtopic=166014
lykanthrus
Hello and thank you for all the help. I don't have any mods, or add-ons. I did try the compatability modes , it got worse. I found that if i ALT-TAB back to windows and back to DAO then the probmes almost all are solved. From what i can gather. Windows is suspending certain DAO file functions, and they do not add EOF tags to the files, and you get a loop that eventuallyoverloads the memory. As for my ~console bug. I ma using a US-international keyb layout, I need the é 's I reconfigured the kyb layout in windows and the console ~ key works now . Although it takes several key taps to get the console to activate. My only remaining bug is the return to the circle mages tower to sell the lyrium from Oresaruim. Always crashes after the boat traverse scene. I'l keep working on the tower problem. As for my not being able to hit any one it looks like it was part of that EOF bug. Also explains my low level. Thanks again for all the help on the previous problems.
