BlackRoseOfThorns
I recently had the same question but it was with a 770 vs 280x and I must say I made the right choice to go with 280x. I just love it. I got the sapphire one (vapor x ) which is three fans model, it doesn't go above 55-59 c depending on the game and the room temperature. Fairly decent. It stays around 40 c with games like dota and stuff, skyrim also the same but when I play with a profile of a lot of mods the temp goes up. But other than that, no sounds no loud noises and definitely worth the money I paid for it That's really low considering MSI Gaming temperatures are:Idle: 39 CLoad: 87 CLoad + OC: 94 C Congrats on your purchase :D
Marth77
Thanks mate :DYup I haven't OC-ed it yet though, I find no reason to, I run my games smoothly and I'm happy with it! Need to do some intensive testing though! Very excited :D
dennis20014
My r9 270x runs pretty cool (never above 60, also a vapor x model) and I run tons of mods pf all sorts. But it's only 2gb lol
MODinsane
I have a laptop using AMD Radeon in my HP, it can get hot but I have a fan pad that takes care of that issue. No noise problem here. Ive been looking at some of the big gamer laptops, pretty expensive when you start at 1K price just to start. So far, after 2 years, this laptop runs good gaming Skyrim. MacSuibhne
is 78 degrees Celsius (172 degrees Fahrenheit) hot for a gaming card? I was talking to a person who owns a Gigabyte R9 280x (three fans) and he cited that temp when he was running at 98%.
BlackRoseOfThorns
I read that standard r9 280x throttles when it hits around 90 degrees (slows down till it gets down to proper temperature). In your place I would check technical forums for this exact model, since you will find more radeon owners to consult there.
