I do not understand the title of this mod. "Takes the Fifth." This is highly anachronistic. There is no Constitution of the United States of America with a Bill of Rights in the medieval fantasy world of Oblivion. There isn't even a Magna Carta. The Cyrodiilac Empire is a monarchy.

The phrase "take the fifth" means that an American exercises his or her rights under the Fifth Amendment of the Constitution of the United States. He or she is protected from self-incrimination. When on trial, he or she does not have to take the stand to testify against him or herself.

Is "the Fifth" some sort of double-meaning or play on words? A fifth of a gallon of sujamma or Cyrodiilac Brandy? A fifth column? Is the Blackadder house and estate named "The Fifth?"

Sorry to be obnoxious, but I keep seeing your signature everywhere, and every time I see it I am like , "What the heck!?"

Well if you read the first page about the mod you might get a bit more of an Idea.

the title black adder takes the fifth is a cleverly thought name by Kieran Foy.

Black Adder is a British comedy series and they usually went like

BlackAdder goes forth (4th series)

now Kieran has cleverly named his mod Idea Black Adder Takes The Fifth

See what i mean

The main quest idea is that you, as a Blackadder, are put on trial for all your family's crimes by the Nine.

Yes, it's not very lore-friendly, but this is a comedy, so certain liberties must be taken. After all, this

is supposed to have happened after the fourth season, in which there were guns and tanks. I'm afraid

we'll have to ask players for a little extra suspension of disbelief here.

Really, the title is very versatile. It has many meanings, and you can choose which you like

best. Basically, it's because it's (like) the fifth season and you are 'on trial.' We might actually

work in the number 5 in places to justify it further, if Kieran likes the idea.

I'm very glad to here that we're getting good exposure.

EDIT:

Woohoo! 500th post!

*long obnoxious post*

Yes, it's anachronistic. The mod is a comedy. It's not meant to be taken seriously, and you need aproximately a metric *bleep*ton of chill pills (or a good solid dose of British humor) if you actually try to take it so.

We didn't exactly tag this a lore-friendly, so it's not supposed to be.

Besides which, a Google search or a decent knowledge of the series would tell you that there are four seasons of Blackadder: The Black Adder, Blackadder II, Blackadder the Third, and Blackadder Goes Forth. Thus, Blackadder Takes the Fifth is both a continuation of this naming tradition, an amusing pun, and a reference to the plot of the mod, which involves a trial.

Now, this may annoy the absurdly lore-obsessed amongst us; but as famous lore-hound Zprospero seems to be able to handle it, the fact that it bugs you might just be a clue that you're taking Oblivion too seriously.

Even Bethesda produced games riddled with Easter Eggs and references, and as a bunch of modders, we have even more freedom to do so.

And, finally, my apologies if I seem cheesed off (cheese for everyone!) by the fact that you walked onto the set of my 'magnificent octopus' and started whinging about the title and going into a geek-rant, but... I am.

Now, don't take offense, Kieran.

David happens to be an expert playtester, and a devoted role player. He playtested my

ROO mod. I don't think he was expressing disdain, but rather just wanted to know what

the inspiration was for the name. As this is a comedy tribute, it is unlikely to fit the tastes

of those who prefer to stay perfectly immersed in the world.

I understand how you might take offense at what David said, but there are many people

who are so deeply concerned with immersion that they won't indulge in a mod like ours.

However, we have more enough of an audience that will indulge that this is not something

we need to concern ourselves with, as those that don't want it won't look for it. We will have

more than enough people who will appreciate this mod.

Back on topic.

Now, when you're arrested the holding cell you get transported to is in that cave off to the side in Aetherius, yes?

I've gotten the priest to barge in and give the arresting speech, but I don't know for certain where to send the player.

I frankly don't care who he is or what he's done; if he's a lore freak, he can stay away and not whinge at us. It's his presumption that we have to drop everything and explain to his satisfaction why we dared use such a title that gets my goat; it was more than a simple question, it was a.

And, getting back on topic, yeah, the caves were what I was thinking of as a hlding cell, but only because I couldn't think of a proper prison. If you want, one of us can design a proper prison with cells and all, or something even more sadistic. Really, I defer to your judgement.
