I'm following the main quest and am currently riding my horse down from the high mountains. It's ocassionally only somewhat good (first plane of Oblivion) but most-times it is awesome (Red Road on a horse at sunset) - so big kudos to bethesda! But it's not perfect. Based on what I've found so far, here's my wishlist, in order of desirability:

* Turn off initial NPC greeting ('cause it often doesn't sync with your subsequent conversation with them).

* Replace the cringe-inducing "Spin the wheel" persuasion game - yuk.

* Take all the dorky North American accents out. I don't expect to get up to windswept Bruma, go to the dirtiest lowest-class inn and find a 'Nord' who who sounds like she's a preppy college girl from Baltimore. Did some kid in the USA win a competition to do a voiceover for Bethesda's new game?

* Smaller PC-centric on-screen UI interfaces. Some mods have helped already, but more could be done.

* The main Morrowind theme music. The Oblivion music is fine, but not as stirringly romantic.

* A zooming map, which is context sensitive (hey, I'm in a town - so show me the town map when I call up the map)

* Flying birds, Night sky meteors, little touches like that.

* Leaves that fall and float down. Could this be done as a mod of the firefly component that the game has already?

* Cats, if only curled up sleeping in houses.

* Guars! Maybe just one tame guar herd, very rare, found in a remote sandy region ?

And, of course, the official Bethesda patch that will double my framerate in big outdoor areas. :-)

1-10) Make EVERY aspect of the game user-editable, with all necessary plugins released. In other words, anything the developers could do, we can do. Oblivion suddenly becomes a much better game, since all its flaws can be fixed by mods.

But if you want details... in no specific order:

1) Full 3dsmax import/export plugin, supporting the latest version. Without it, the modding community is pretty much dead in terms of adding major new content.

2) Access to the skill system, to add/remove skills and fix the incredibly stupid system we have now, where an axe is a blunt weapon, a dagger requires pure strength to use, and a dagger-armed thief can pick up a claymore and use it with just as much skill.

3) Access to ALL animations in the game, to add new weapons and attack styles.

4) Remove the incredibly stupid speechcraft minigame, or at least add a "roll the dice" option like with lockpicking. It makes no sense that every time I try to persuade someone, I have to use every method of persuasion once and only once. It turns negotiating from "what would be the best way to convince this person" into "how can I exploit the rules system to get the best numbers".

5) Remove the annoying camera change when talking to someone.

6) Change the map to be like Morrowind's system, where all areas you have explored are clearly highlighted, not just the major map features. As it is, it's difficult to tell if an area is completely unexplored, or if there's just nothing in it to appear on the map.

7) Fix the ugly ground textures so they actually display correctly.

8) Replace the armor/clothing system with the one from Morrowind, where you could wear layers of clothing. Remove the ability to enchant common clothes if you have to.

9) Remove the incredibly stupid level scaling that makes it a better tactic to NOT rest and level. Sure, some things in the game can be scaled, but having every single opponent level with you makes no sense at all. It takes the entire point out of developing a character if you never improve relative to the rest of the world!

10) Remove the psychic guards. A guard that hasn't directly seen me steal something shouldn't know about it unless another NPC sees it, and goes to him to tell him. Also, bounties shouldn't be placed instantly, it should take time for guards in another city to recieve news of my latest crimes.

Hi:-

Partial mods that address your 5) and 10) are out now. One is called No Psychic Guards, the other tweaks the talking distance but I'm not sure of the name. TESsource has them.

Like the 6) idea. Should be possible to put an overlay on the map with an XML mod?? But how to make it know where you've been? Sactted lots of little tiny invisible "micro-shrines" in every cell, that show up on the map as a plain colour overlay 'marker' when they are 'found'?

Yes, re: 7) I've seen a few moire patterns on underlying middle-distance ground textures. Yellow hillsides (limestone/dry grass?) especially.

re: 9). I guess a little imagination helps RPG's :-) "It's all part of Dagon's wicked but mysterious plan" that this or that happens.
