legend cakeboy
Well, heres my problem. I've recently bout Oblivion for my 360 and after doing so found out about the PC version and all it's amazing mods. I would get it instead of my 360 version but i have Vista so would not be able to use it (I think). So what i was wondering was, is it possible to get mods onto ur 360? Also i have this theory but i don't know whether anybody has tried it. On the GOTY version of Oblivion it has a second disc with shivering Isles and knights of the nine on it. On the disc, when uploading it, it has a massive box for only 2 downloads, so what i was thinking is:Is that box there cos ur able to add PC made mods to the CD and use them on ur 360 version.Or perhaps you mite be able to get mods onto the CD by finding the CD's data using a computer and add mods too it.Or the final crazy idea of mine is Bethesda created this massive box for 2 things and for no other reason than to make us 360 owners of the game have some form of hope. I realise these are incredibly basic ideas and will need some more 'able' modder's to have a look at my theory.Hope this is all true cos as a huge fan of Zelda, I love the idea of being able to swing the master sword in first person! Please post back cos i don't want to get XP just to play the PC version of Oblivion and add mods. Pronam
The DLC/Games are entirely different. Yes there are tiny ways to modify a savegame on a Xbox360, but yes you'll also risk loosing your xbox-live capabilities. For all the trouble it ain't worth the little changes you could made. All mods hosted here can't be used for it. None could give you any support on this either. The basic word is 'No', my word is also 'No, it ain't possible, worth the trouble or does in any way improve your experience on the 360 the PC can offer.' Any user-made modifications on the Xbox are illegal anyway.
legend cakeboy
Thats not what i mean. I know that you can hack the system and muck up ur live connection, what i mean is possibly find out what data bethesda uses for there shivering isles and knights of the nine plug-ins on the disc and see if we can get mods to use the same data and features in them so that they are like proper add-ons on the disc. As if they are bethesda marketed mods, (but we all know they're not).
bben46
Bben46's FAQ, Can I use the mods on my 360? Short answer, No. Long answer. The file structures between the 360 and PC are totally different. Even if you could get a mod made for the PC into the 360 it won't work. To get it to work, you will have to rewrite the operating system of the 360 first, then rewrite every mod to work on that new operating system. Then, the maker of the 360 doesn't want you to do that. If you modify anything in it, they will block you the next time you go on their site. (read their terms and conditions) They make their money selling you new games and not by allowing you to use free mods. Yes, there are sites that will tell you how to modify your 360 so it can use mods. However, it is not a simple process and involves voiding your warranty, and the terms of service you agreed to when you first got the thing. - and risks turning your expensive console into a nice looking paperweight. There are currently very few working mods for Oblivion/FO3 available for the hacked 360. And, the first time your 360 connects to the MS site - your particular box is banned forever. Even if you unhack it. (Check recent xbox news on Microsoft banning nearly a million xboxes with “No recourse” for "hacking them".) You agreed to this when you signed up! Read the fine print -Paraphrased: You have the right to use it only in the way they want you to use it and if you ever try to use it in any other way than the one they give you, they have the right to shut you down. If you need a paperweight, go down to the building supply and buy a brick - it's cheaper. And, no, the DLCs for the PC will not work on the 360 either. You have to buy the ones made specifically for the 360. But, if it's any consolation, the games made for the 360 will not work on the PC either. legend cakeboy
fair enough, cheers for the advice and i wondered now then, will oblivion GOTY work on windows 7???
Pronam
Of course. Just install it outside the regular program files. Like C:\games or C:\Alternate Program Files or any other non existent folder that's UAC protected. You could also install it the normal way, but you could get permission annoyances. SavageArtistry
fair enough, cheers for the advice and i wondered now then, will oblivion GOTY work on windows 7??? Oblivion works fine on Vista and I'm pretty sure it works fine in Windows 7. You just need to install it somewhere other than the default path. Megatarius
I have my copy installed on Windows 7, and I've had no problems that were caused by that. In short, there is no reason it shouldn't work on Windows 7, assuming you haven't screwed up Windows itself in some way, which I'm sure you haven't. Go into the UAC options in Control Panel and turn it off, and you can install in the regular install folder. Or do what other people have said and install in a different folder. I say, down with 360! If it's available for that, it's available for Windows as well. Unless you have a weak machine, you're better off getting everything for Windows. Fixer
Hmmmmmm... my nephew gave me his bricked 360. I wonder if I can take parts out of it to mod my PC.... THAT would definitely be a way to run Oblivion on the 360-PC... But I guess it wouldn't be a 360 then...
