Sweetcakes
Hi everyone! I am a newbie modder (only been modding about two weeks now) and I have officially run into my first major crisis. I having been trying to create new inventory/journal tab icons. I've been using one of the tutorials on the TES wiki to place them into the game. Problem is that they're not showing up ingame and I can't, for the life of me, figure out what I'm doing wrong. I edited all three icon sizes, the path is correct, alpha channel is good and mipmaps are disabled... but when I check ingame the icons still show the original Oblivion icons. Does anyone know what I might be doing wrong? Any help is much appreciated. ^_^
DavidBudreck
Start with the easy things first; did you select your custom icons in the master form of the items? Are the icons in the proper folder loactions? Did you change the icons to your custom ones for male, female, or both? If you only canged the female icons, then that may be the problem. In many cases Oblivion uses the male icon instead of choosing which one based on geneder, like when you are viewing things in containers; only the male icon is used. Only when viewing objects in your inventory does the game use icons based on the gender of your character.
David Brasher
You might try doing your mod as a replacer. You know the original icons work and are showing up in-game. So assuming that you have unpacked your vanilla textures and can view them, find the ones that show up in game, copy them, rename the back-ups so the program can't find them but you can, and change a vanilla icon to your new icon, so that your new stuff has exactly the same name as the old stuff. This might not be exactly what your mod needs, but you will be able to prove that you can put your image into the game and might be able to gain an insight into what you were doing wrong so you can then do exactly what you planned on doing.
