Nexus Mod Manager is magically saving my computer's content

Okay, I'm really confused on Nexus Mod Manager, and could really use the answers from a developer or something like that.

I had some problems with my computer, so I started a memory wipe. Most things were gone, and since the thing was cut in the middle and I found out I could use my computer again, I decided to leave it be. I took notice that my Skyrim game folder had been erased, as well as all of my downloads and saves. I lost lots of things.

First thing I went for was for reinstalling Skyrim, and starting to download the huge mountain of mods that make up my modlist. When I installed Nexus Mod Manager, however, I found all of my previous mods there, even though they weren't in the loading order, I simply had to uninstall and reinstall them for them to show up again.

So, they must obviously be going at inexistent content! Impossible. I loaded an armor mod, with custom textures and meshes - which it couldn't have gotten from nowhere (In this case, it was Stormlord Armor, so I could see it on Ulfric when the game started.)

I want to understand this. Is there a place where Nexus Mod Manager stores all my mods, as copies? If so, how can I acess it?

That'd be the "Mods" and "Install Info" folders, if I'm not mistaken. As to where those are to be found, this is exclusively decided by you and nobody but you will know. There are certain "default" locations for these folders when you install NMM and don't enter an own path though. The latest version for example points these to "C:/Games/Nexus Mod Manager/<name-of-game>/Mods" and ".../Install Info" respectively. Before this I think to recall it was the same path but without "Nexus Mod Manager" in it.

These folders are never ever touched by any other process than adding or removing or downloading mods with the NMM. Even if you uninstall the NMM, these folders will remain completely intact, unless you manually mess with them yourself.

This is different. Usually we get "I wiped my computer and now my mods are gone!" :pinch:

First guess, are you using any mods from Steam Workshop? Because Steam does keep track of your mods and reloads them if they are no longer there.

Yup, it does that if you're subscribed to them.

I unsubscribed from all of my Steam Workshop mods a while back so that wouldn't happen. I favorited them instead, so I can still check for updates easily on my Favorites page there (I add &sortmethod=lastupdated to the Favorites page address).
