TotallyNotToastyFresh
Okay, I'm tired, I'm hungry, it's pretty hot and I am pissed off. SO I'm just gonna post my problem here to try and get it fixed because I've tried everything and I have a headache from it. :wallbash: I'm absolutely dying to play OB again, and both of my copies of the game CTD. I have two: A copy bought off of Steam, and a copy on a clean install. The steam copy is fully patched and has tens of thousands of mods installed, and the other is not patched or modded in any way. Just vanilla OB. Steam copy will load a game, but as soon as it is loaded, the game exits instantly. No error message or anything. The CD copy will maybe get to the Bethesda logo, then CTD with the good 'ol anal-retentive 'Oblivion has stopped working'. Can anyone please help? Fonger
Since you haven't told us that this program has ever run on this system, it seems prudent to check if your hardawre meets minimum requirements for this game.
TotallyNotToastyFresh
It has. Not 2 months ago both copies worked fine. Also, you should check my profile for my PC specs because it most obviously does meet the requirements.
Qwaxalot
Try renaming or deleting the oblivion.ini file (...\My Documents\My Games\Oblivion\Oblivion.ini) Oblivion will then redetect hardware. It will also, probably, not recognize your video card and set everything to medium. Just change the settings according to what you think your card will support (You can always change them later)
David Brasher
You have probably already done this, but you might inspect your CD-ROM for scratches, dirt, and warping. You might also clean your drive. Mods can easily crash Oblivion, but your unmodded version really ought to work. Have you done all your system maintenance like deleting unneeded files, defrag, and scandisk?
bben46
Are you trying to run 2 copies of Oblivion on the same computer? If so. there is a problem with the registry. When Oblivion installs, it places entries in the Windows registry that tell it where to find the various parts. If you install a second copy, it gets confused and looks in the wrong places. Some of the registry entries get changed to the new locations while some do not. To remove these registry entries you will probably have to uninstall BOTH copied and reinstall. Just deleting the folders will not work as that leaves the registry entries that cause the problem behind to cause problems when you try to install again. First, do as Quaxalot suggested and delete your Oblivion.ini - that fixes a lot of problems. When you start the game, it will create a new Oblivion.ini Here is my revert to vanilla article - how to go back to the original state without reinstalling.http://www.tesnexus.com/articles/article.php?id=340 Here is a link to my complete uninstall/reinstall procedure located in the articles section of the Nexushttp://www.tesnexus.com/articles/article.php?id=240Pay particular attention to the registry cleaning part - you MUST reboot both before and after running the cleaner. If you need 2 copies fro some reason such as 2 people using the computer that want to play with different mods, or a clean copy for use with the CS for modding.
