Won't run Oblivion =(

Ok, so I just finished downloading a mod called Deadly reflex 5.0 the latest version so not many bugs at all. So I launch Oblivion and it turns into a black screen and exits the game. I delete my Oblivion.ini file through documents/mygames/Oblivion and it won't work. I have seen other people have these problems but all of them were solved deleting the oblivion.ini file. Anyone have any ideas?

Nope fonger, no luck =/ *Edit* When i unselect the mods in the data files in the launcher Oblivion works, then it says Oblivion has stopped working. And im using a Windows 7 32 bit my driver is all up to date and never had problems till I installed the mod.

BOSS did not fix the problem. OBSE never worked either. So obviously the mod is messing the data folder even when i unselect in data files.

Ok, its beginning to clarify

you're trying to use a mod that requires OBSE

and you cannot get OBSE to run

so obviously any mod that requires OBSE won't run

and your game will crash.

Now that that's clarified

Uninstall OBSE and any mod that requires OBSE as well

If you cannot get the game to run after that,

Do a FULL CLEAN re-install of the game.

K will do thanks  *Edit* When i try to download OBSE it downloads as a Winrar file and i have to extract it, how do i get the real thing? *2nd edit* Ok the game won't instantly close down when I start it. But now it shuts down when that Bethesda software comes up before you go to the main menu. Some progress. Any help on this?

OBSE is not a mod and does not install like a mod. It also downloads as a zip file and not winrar. If you have a winrar version, you got it from the wrong place - go here: http://obse.silverlock.org/ Please read the directions on how to install also. Get and use 7-zip to unzip mods. it will handle zip, winrar as well as any other compressed file you find, and its FREE, completely FREE, unlike Winrar which is try before you buy. And its available right here on The Nexus. http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=15579

It looks like you picked one of the most difficult mods there is to start with. I recommend trying to learn how to install mods with something a little simpler. Mods are not like store bought games. You actually have to know (or learn) something about computer file structure to work with them.

Some other recommendations.

Do play the game for a while with no mods so you will know what you would like to change, and be able to tell if it actually changed what you wanted it to.

DO NOT make the noob mistake of thinking you will save time loading a bunch of mods all at once. Any time you save will be more than lost in troubleshooting to find the mods that are causing problems.

DO start with a simple mod. Trying to install a large complicated mod, like deadly Reflex, that makes a lot of changes to the game will be much more difficult if you have not installed a few simpler mods first. This one thing can save a lot of frustration.

Note: I have a set of help files for people who are not computer geeks and are new to mods. They include downloading, extracting (unzipping) installing and activating mods. I have included a simple mod to practice on and instructions for installing and using 7-zip. If you are interested, click on the highlighted link below to be taken to the site where they are kept. I recommend starting with #1 and working your way through them.

If you use them I would appreciate some feedback as to what needs improvement and what works for you.

Do install one mod at a time, then test to be sure it works before installing the next - the best place to test is OUTSIDE of the sewer that completes the tutorial. Make a save game there and use that one for testing new mods. The Imperial City is another good place to do testing. I usually load the end of sewers save and travel from there to the city. Walk around the city and talk to a few people. Try to get into a fight with some creature and a human too. if that works, the mod is probably OK. If the mod only affects a specific place, be sure to go there for testing.

Do make sure you have the latest patch and OBSE as many mods will not work without them.

Do make a back up of your vanilla data folder BEFORE adding any mods. Vanilla means the base game, with the latest patch and no mods. That is what you want to back up - Just make a new folder OUTSIDE of the Oblivion folder and copy the data folder into it - give it a name like original_data so you will be able to know what it is 3 months from now when you need it to avoid a complete uninstall and reinstall.

Do use OBSE and OBMM. Wrye Bash is a great program with many functions, but you will not need them at first. OBMM will do everything you need and is much easier for a neophyte to install and use. After you have worked with mods for a while you may consider Wrye Bash. You can use both with no problems if you wish.

Do read the readme and any other documentation with EVERY mod you use, as there may be differences in installing or using that mod.

Do learn to use either the OBMM OMOD or the Wrye Bash BAIN installers as they make installing, removing and reinstalling mods so much easier (Pick one and stick with it)

Do Not blame the mod maker if a mod does not work in your game. Instead, POLITELY ask for help.

And finally, If you have problems, DO ask here, as there is always someone willing to help if you ask nicely.

You defintley have some good advice here and I thank you. I know what it is like without mods I beat the game without cheats or mods. I did get OBSE from your link. I was about to post that the Deadly reflex mod has to be launched from OBSE and I can't figure out how to do that. I can't find the .exe folder for Oblivion. I will try 7-zip and see how that works. =) *Edit* Thanks for all the help guys! I got it to work. My game was not up to date for the newest patch. Now all my mods work. Thanks again!
