Ardon
I want the portcullis on an imperial fort I am constructing to be able to be raised and lowered. I assume I need to script to do this, but I haven't written a single script yet and am slightly lost (need an emote of head scratching). Any help would be much appreciated. Also, if the portcullis is raised it sticks up out the top of the wall, if I reduce the scale of the portcullis it would not reach the top of the arch in which it is placed. Any ideas on how to disguise this dilemma? Oh, and another thing, it would be good to have an imperial arch with a slit in it to facilitate a portcullis. It looks a little funny having a portcullis raise and lower through solid brick, so for those with 3D Max there is an idea for you.
Cecil14
I was thinking about doing something similar. Don't really have any idea's on how to fix the problems involved though. Was wondering about them myself. A drawbridge may be something else to think about though...you maybe be able to take the one from Sotha Sil's place in Tribunal and patch that in somehow... I'd like to see if someone has or can get around these issues, a working portcullis would be great. Anthony
Ardon
I was thinking of maybe adding a structure above each portcullis, something like a small guard tower or something which could house the raised portcullis. I will try designing it myself when I get G-Max working, if I am able to get it working...
Cecil14
I was just thinking something alone those lines. You could just "hide" it with a second level. A guard tower or two would probably be about perfect. You may be able to see some slight distorting when it raises through the other structure though. Where did you find the portcullis you used? Did you make it or is it in the editor already? Thanks,Anthony
garycornett39
You could design it in gmax but you would have to export it in .nif format before putting it into marrowind and gmax cant export to .nif, only 3ds max can. of course you could ask someone that has 3ds max to export it for you or buy it for $3500 or get the student one for $500. Ardon
I'm a student! I can get the student version! But damn, I'm a student, I don't have any money! Oh, and Anthony, at present I am using a portcullis from the original data. It is in the static sub-menu under: ex_gg_portcullis_01 It is too small for imperial arches when they are lowered but fit ok in the raised position with a little scaling. Once again, it looks funny that it is sticking out of the wall, what I might try and do if I have time (very busy with final year project at uni at the moment) is do some texturing so that it looks like there is a gap in the imperial arch, since it doesn't look like I can use Gmax (though I haven't checked my other post yet...). If I do make the texture I will make it available on a simple website and post some of my other stuff on it too.
Ardon
Ok, what I have done is placed two imperial platforms above each portcullis, one inverted so it doesn't look invisible from underneath. To get rid of the wierd flashing between the two one is slightly offset from the other.
Kethruch
Just a thought - Is it possible to have the final position of the porticullus be at an angle? If your gatehouse were wide, it could hide 'along the roof'. It might look like it was pivoting back. Could be a cool effect...
Bomo
Those nice folks at Bethesda have invented the wheel, remember Ghostgate ? take a look at GG_Opengate1 script. ;) You could combine that whit some force greeting, like when you get near the gate, you must state your buisness, or at certin times the gate cant open at all. The masking, just be creative, put in some dweemer blocks or whatever to hide the "trough solid rock" effect.
parrotheada1a
The masking, just be creative, put in some dweemer blocks or whatever to hide the "trough solid rock" effect. Another idea along that line would be to cover the top of the wall with a banner that hangs down. You could even put advertisement on it for an upcoming event within the place.
