Weapons cast Spells

BrokenSwords

Recommended Posts

Top of the mornin' to ya'

You know I was wondering is it possible to script a weapon to cast spells ?.

For example you swing an enchanted fire sword and you can literally see the visuals like a fire wave or fire ball come from the sword and get your attacker.

I know you can bump the reach up on a weapon in the Construction set so you can "snipe" :whoops: an enemy but I was just wondering if this is possible.

If so then I have an idea instore,

If not then it doesnt matter.

Any way

Hope I get a couple of replies.

yours sincerely:

Darryl

It's being done, right now. When you use a poisoned weapon, you're in effect casting a spell when that weapon hits. The same thing goes with enchanted weapons. So your answer is, yes.

I see,

But I was on about when your a fair distance from the enemy and not on strike,

Is it possible to get the visuals from the staves (like a lightning bolt animation where you can see it go) and import them onto swords, hammers and whatnot ?

Doesn't work because the weapon still needs to actually hit something before an effect can be applied or cast. Even with OBSE, the effect you would get would be rather crappy (which is why you don't see any mods which have this). I've done some work along these lines, and have successfully made a 1 hand wand that shoots spell bolts, the problem however is that the weapon itself can't deal any damage (without being exploitive), initiates combat before the spell hits, and often miss the target. And no, I'm not going to tell you how since it's not something that requires you to work outside some of the limitations present in the CS.

Ah that's dissapointing, I was thinking of creating Thors Hammer, Mjolnir. Like the one from Tomb Raider Underworld where she swings it and a massive lightning bolt comes out.

But if it's not possible then never mind eh, life goes on.

So, theoretically, could someone simply make a metal sword-shaped staff? I mean, it wouldn't be able to do damage other than the magic, but a "sword" that shoots lightning might have a potential for levels of cool...

A new mesh, and a new staff animation that isn't slow and pathetic IS anyone's best bet of doing something like this. A good counter-statement is then to say that the hammer/sword/bow with the staff engine, and a new animation would be that the hammer would not be able to do melee damage, and the bow would never shoot any real arrows. A counter-counter argument to that is Unnecessary Violence http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=24936, which lets you use a different attack animation with scripted damage by pressing a different key. The most plain counter-counter-counter argument I can see to this is that UV bases the amount of damage a weapon does in the script by drawing from it's original damage value. Since a Staff has no damage value to draw from, a workaround is needed.

Otherwise, with these ideas, we could make a hammer that melees when you want to, and also casts a spell when you swing it.

I'm going to keep an eye on this for sure...
