Window screen, then nothing

A friend of mine (no seriously) tried installing OBSE and now when he loads oblivion (through the OBSE loader or normal oblivion launcher) he gets a window that comes up for a moment, then nothing, Oblivion didnt load

Was OBSE installed in the right place? it is NOT a mod and does not install like a mod.

The OBSE components should be in the same folder as the data folder, but NOT in the data folder. Both are in the Oblivion folder.

 

Note that OBSE does nothing to the original Oblivion game. It loads before the game, and then calls the Oblivion.exe program. It does not use the Oblivion shortcut to load the game so it must be in the same folder as Oblivion.exe

 

The Oblivion shortcut tells the computer where to find a program named Oblivion.exe OBSE looks for the same program to load after it has loaded OBSE

 

Check the Oblivion shortcut to be sure it really goes to Oblivion.exe and nothing else. And that the OBSE loader loads OBSE_Loader.exe and not Oblivion.exe

 

If he is using the steam version, he must read the instructions for installing with steam. It's different from installing a DVD version.

 

If he is using a pirate version Sorry about his luck, who knows what he has, or what the pirate added or left out of the upload.

 

First, get rid of the OBSE components. Get Oblivion working without OBSE again. Make sure the Oblivion shortcut goes to the Oblivion.exe located in the Oblivion folder wherever it was installed. Then reinstall OBSE, just copy the OBSE components into the same folder that Oblivion.exe is in. Then when making his new shortcut, leave the Oblivion shortcut alone and use the OBSE_Launcher.exe to make the new shortcut.
