Custom Radio Mod- What do you want to hear?

Hi guys,

 

Today I am going to be working on the radio station for my main mod, The Defcon Corporation (nexusmods.com/newvegas/mods/55961/?). So, I am writing this post to find out exactly what you guys want to hear! I would really appreciate it if you would take 30 seconds to answer the poll questions, or to leave me a reply below!

 

Some more information on the actual radio station itself:

 

• Based on current (2014) music (although some tracks will be a few years older than this), to give the game a better feel for those who would like to hear something other than the default vintage music. This makes perfect sense, when you think about it, as the Great War was not until 2077.
• The radio presenter/DJ will be similar to Mr. New Vegas, reading the news, and introducing tracks.
• The radio will be made to accompany my main mod, as mentioned before, but I will also be releasing it as a standalone mod, as well.

So, please leave me your thoughts below! What I'd really love to know is which songs you'd like to hear on the radio station, so that I can start to gather some music together!

"Modern" music doesn't quite fit in the Fallout universe because the Fallout universe is literally an alternate universe and dub step, rap, modern Rock don't exist. However, vintage rock such as Elvis (Presley), Little Richard, Buddy Holly, Big Bopper, Johnny Cash, and the Beach Boys would work.

 

But if you really don't care about the lore, I'd say try to get permission to add some one republic or Bastille or Imagine Dragons. But I vote Jazz and vintage rock all the way!

I agree with spartenkiller897. It doesn't really work, at least not for me. I've seen similar ideas work really well for other people though, and lots of people have highly endorsed hundreds of mods that I would never think of using because it wouldn't fit the lore. At least not the lore that I believe to be more realistic. I personally don't like that kind of music, so I don't know what would be the "better choice". But as spartenkiller897 said, I'd use something along the lines of Johnny Cash or Elvis. Either way, good luck on the success of your mod!

 

P.S. I like the idea of having more news and announcements, though. Listening to Mr. New Vegas all day gets a bit annoying hearing him say the same things we've heard him say a thousand times before.

Ok, thanks for the suggestions! I guess that it may not fit the lore all too well, but as you said, it's worked for others- if I can add in all the features of a radio station (like you said that you want to hear more news, etc.), then hopefully everyone will be able to enjoy it to some extent. I was looking for voice actors, as well, but I may now just try to voice it myself. Oh, and when spartenkiller897 was talking bout getting permission, I've been kinda clever about it- I downloaded remixed versions to avoid getting in trouble for copyright issues. I'll take a look at your suggestions of Bastille/One Republic and try to get some good tracks. Thanks again :)

I think that if fallout was a real universe this kind of thing would be there somewhere EDM and Dubstep. I think its just a matter of finding the right Dubstep and EDM to fit the universe. I think there would be a heavy rock too, It just wouldn't have the same sort of lyrics that heavy rock and metal does now. Down With the Sickness (Disturbed) is a good example (not that it would fit in the atmosphere). It is a remake of a old song that's what I am getting at. Or Mr. Sandman Dustup remix would work (v=4uOc7xDPHCg, YouTube)

 

Or new songs that have a more tame feeling would work well. No rest for the wicked (Cage The Elephant) would work. Or if you are looking for dubstep, Sail (unlimited gravity remix, I think it fits the FO3 setting extra well). I also think that more European dubstep would make since in this universe. I believe that if it did get formed it would form in the Fallout universe it would be more European than American.

Funnily enough, I already have Sail (Unlimited Gravity Remix) added to the station, so I think that we're both thinking of the same sort of thing. I'll keep looking for music to add in future updates- right now, I'm writing the script for the news, intros, and everything else. I'm currently looking for a voice actor to do it, but as soon as I get one, I'll upload the radio station to show everyone what I've made. Hopefully you'll like it :)

I would ask what kind of group are running this station? is it going to be a morally good group or a morally gray/and or ruthless group? this can help me figure out what music you need. I can also contribute script ideas if I know what you are theming this on.

 

I will keep a look out for music that may fit this game, Do you want me to give you everything I come across or only EDM and Dubstep?

 

Oh and if you are fine with rock, Radar Love and Ballroom blitz may work, depending on the atmosphere you want your Deacon Inc. to have.

Well, the group is the Defcon Corporation, and it's part of my main mod (nexusmods.com/newvegas/mods/55961/?). You can find some more information on them there, but they are basically a PMC which runs an alcohol and drugs ring, manufacturing products to sell to the bars, casinos, and hotels, of the Mojave.

As for music, I really only want it to be based on electro (so yeah EDM, dubstep, house, etc.), just to give it a consistent theme throughout all of it's songs. Thanks for your suggestions, by the, way; I've already downloaded some of the tracks you told me about :)

 

Oh, and as for script writing, I'm rewording all of the news stories on Radio New Vegas to make sure that I get everything. They've been changed loads, and I've added in some new stories as well, so it's not too similar to RNV. If you have any good ideas for news stories, or anything, though, then please feel free to share you ideas with me!
