NailPeeler
Hello everybody. I´m trying to get used to the CS and I´ve alredy modded some simple things (A house, A dungeon, some companions, a new worldspace...). But everything just for learning purposes and nothing really worth the playing. So I wanted to do something useful in the next learning step: Some kind of barracks with my own CM companions in there and my favourite weapons and armors so I can always come back and reequip and change my "units". But I get the game to crash many times or things not working properly because I try to use mods like the ever-awesome Real Swords Compilation (thanks Walx for the awesome models and mods and Oblivion Cat for making the OMOD) or race mods for my companions. I´ve read the "read me file" of the CM-Partner mod and it says that I have to convert the .esp file to an .esm file in order to use custom races to the CM Companions so I get all the race mods I want in my mod, get them all into a single .esp file and convert it to an .esm file... But still does not work for me so... What am I doing wrong? What is the right way to mod using other mods for it? I searched but didn´t find any tutorial. Sorry for my english and thanks everybody for your time. Hope I can finally release something worthy
Jenrai
It takes quite a bit of explaining mate. The best source at all for anything to do with the construction set is the Elder Scrolls Construction Set Wiki. If you can't figure it out from that little lot I'm sure someone can help. If not I can but be prepared to be patient because its not quite as simple as it would seem to be sometimes. Jenrai
rdamstrom
I have tried the hole convert to esm thing and though it does work it will only create more problem's down the road if you ever want to release something. esp's are basicly invisible to each other. this is why we can't grab a hair from one esp and get it to work unless we make a copy of it. this will then make it part of our esp. the same is true about items. after you save and reload without the other esp you grab the stuff off of you can go back and rename these items and say no to create new formid. always try to keep everything you need in your esp and you will not have to worry about dependency's and conflicts. if you want to create a custom race companion then merge the race esp with the companion esp using TES4Gecko. now everything you need is local and no dependencies if you follow the link to my mod you will see I have a mystic elf with no dependencies everything needed is completely contained in the mod. how did I do it? I merged the race with my esp. created my companion then I deleted the unused races hairs and eyes. after that I ran tes4files on the esp and it copied everything I needed into a folder an all I had to do was add a readme and zip it up. TESsnip can be a great tool for removing unwanted stuff but always make a backup first in case you break something. cs will always complain about mismatch record count but will correct the mod if you continue. I hope this helps you.http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=8665http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=8489 http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=2114
NailPeeler
First of all I´m sorry for answering so late, I had some trouble with my computer. Shame on me. @Jenrai That web is where I try to learn everything step by step but never found something like a "mod depending modding" or whatever. Maybe I didn´t searched the right terms. @rdamstrom As soon as I am able to reinstall the oblivion and CS (I had to format) I will try your method and see if I can do a couple of simple things and keep going from there. Thank you both for your interest and sorry for not thanking properly at the right time.
