Yankanator
If I just insert Fallout 3 and wait it gives me the error message. I picked up a firmware update for my DVD-ROM and that hasn't helped. I haven't reformatted or reinstalled my operating system. The only thing that's changed since the last time the game was installed is I did a factory reset (its a dell). I'm gonna see if there's any updates for windows I'm missing that might be causing this but I don't really know what else to do. Virtually nothing on my computer is different now than when I had it installed before that I know of.

Fallout3.exe on your hard drive does not access your DVD drive at all(Thank You Bethesda!!) So you need to seek Operating System related solutions Usual suspect is related to UAC interacting with Windows7/Vista and their attempts to control your computer against you.
