I have been playing eschalon 1, 2 3 (review 1 is good, 2 is great, 3 is too short and meh)

and avadon.

i am looking for more games that fit the old school isometric rpg model

i have age of decadence beta, did fallout 1/2, arcanum. can't think of some of the other big names.

any you really enjoyed?

yes I played the baldurs gate. they were awesome. :)

sorry I should have been more specific. I don't like rogue-like and am not interested in most hack-n-slash diablo clones, though those are in the RPG wheelhouse to be sure.

an RPG to me is any game that has 1) a story/plot (bonus if you can diverge or change you role in story) you can do that in like fallout new vegas but you cannot in avadon/arcanum but those are RPGs because

2) you create a PC that either has classes or skills/abilities perks to buy, and not just a single unlockable one set of abilities. I would not consider Thief to be an RPG but a cool action game.

3) you gain xp or levels and can spend your points as you wish. (this kind of clarifies 2)

my favorite real time RPGS (no particular order):

Neverwinter nights 1 (not 2)

Fallout 1,2,3,NV.

Elder scroll morrowind/oblivion/skyrim

bioshock series (though that is more of a action game with an ability tree)

deus ex series

stars wars knights of the old republic.

ones I liked but did not love: two worlds (1 more than 2), kingdoms of amalur

did not like: mass effect (might try again someday), dragon age (just got bored)

my favorite isometrics so far: eschalon 1 and 2.

to quote wikipedia "Unlike action games, RPGs seldom test a player's physical skill. Combat is typically a tactical challenge rather than a physical one, and games involve other non-action gameplay such as choosing dialog options, inventory management, or buying and selling items.["

I really like dialogue options in RPGs but many Isometric RPGS do not have them.

I just saw Heroine's Quest: The Herald of Ragnarok on Steam today. It's free, so you may as well look at it and perhaps try it out. I've no idea if it's any good.

Risen 1 is a great RPG once you get used to the combat system.

The S.T.A.L.K.E.R. series is worth looking at if you liked Fallout 3.

Dishonored is also worth a go.

Mount and Blade series is fun but has a steep learning curve.

And if you like games with mild traces of RPG like Bioshock.. I guess you might like Dead Space series.

But I am surprised you got bored of DAO and not Baldurs Gate.. as they are both very similar games and created by Bioware.

For me, I love the nostalgia of the old games like BG but I get impatient with all the reading! If only the enhanced editions were fully voiced.. THAT would have been worth paying for.
