Bobio567
Ever since I first walked into New Vegas, I felt a bit disappointed that only 4 casinos had survived the great war and test of time. Visually speaking, the strip lacks the neon glamor that had once adorned the Vegas streets predominately between the 1950s and 60s. I know making a mod adding the casinos of the period would be quite a challenge so instead, I am requesting that someone with modeling/ texturing knowledge restore the neon signs that had once helped light up the night sky and add them to the strip and freeside. Ideally, the signs would be those belonging to The Dunes, Stardust, Sahara, Sands, Thunderbird, Tropicana, Frontier, Algiers and the Mint. Maybe even Sassy Sally can be thrown in too. Any one of these would surely add the intended rat-pack era vibe and a real sense of preservation/ elegance to the game. Cheers ! http://oi60.tinypic.com/2w23soy.jpg
blaze1514
I may be wrong, but isn't the Tops the Mint in NV?
Bobio567
According to the fallout wiki, the Tops is supposedly based on the Sands but I can see your point. The towers belonging to both the Tops and the Mint look very similar as well as the wavy neon lights infront that appeared on both casinos. It also says Gomorrah was based on the Dunes (ex: sign is close to original) and the Lucky 38 is a homage to both the Stratosphere/ Landmark casinos. With this in mind, I think the neon signs in the mod can also be a reminder that although the casinos may not have survived, their impact lives on through their counterparts in-game. blaze1514
I was just saying since that those would be the fallout versions of those casinos. So it would be less work to skip them and focus on the others. You should try and make new names for the others as well (just for the fun). like the Neptune for the Tropicana for example. Bobio567
aaah I see now. In that case, I've taken up blender today (complete noob) and will personally attempt the Dunes, Sands and Mint signs to alleviate some of the burden. As for renaming the remaining casinos, don't you think that giving them new names would be changing their legacies? I'm more of a vintage guy so leaving the original names to me feels like closure to the old strip.

Closer to our strip, However the divergence means that the strip isn't going to be the same for them as it is for us. If you are going for Real world nostalgia then its fine. Bobio567
I tried to work your consideration about the divergence into the signs but creating new words from the original fonts on the signs was proving to be too much work. Instead, I chose to keep it simple and stick with the real world nostalgia. These are the meshes in Sketchup and they look great in Blender (v. 2.49?). however, I can't seem to get them textured. I've tried several tutorials but just can't find one that works so if anyone can texture these or at least point out a working tutorial, let me now. I have an abundant stockpile of photos that can be helpful as well!http://oi58.tinypic.com/mkhkyd.jpg
Jokerine
I can't really help with textures and such, but whoa, these look incredible! Look forward to seeing them ingame :)
Bobio567
This is a little update: I made the 3d models of these 54 (big improvement from the original 9). It'll take a while converting the files into nifs via blender but it will eventually got done. In truth, the only real problem I still face is the texturing problem. Again, if someone can teach me how to apply custom textures or point out a working tutorial, things would go a whole lot faster :). Regardless, the painted models here in sketchup are essentially what the signs will look like when they are glowing in the game :). http://oi61.tinypic.com/xll8d2.jpg Algiers Hotel, Ambassador East, Barbary Coast, Blackjack Motel, Boulder Club, Cactus Motel, Casino Royale,Castaways, Cimarron Motel, Club Bingo, Wilbur Clark's Desert Inn, Dunes, El Rancho Vegas, Flamingo, Empey's Desert Villa, New Frontier (2), Gateway Motel, Glitter Gulch, Golden Nugget, Hacienda, High Hat Regency, the full perimeter of Binion's Horseshoe, La Concha Motel, Las Vegas Club, Lucky Casino, Luxor, Palms Motor Motel, Riviera (2), Safari Motel, Sahara, Sands (2), Showboat, Silver Palace, Silverbird, Sky Ranch Motel, Somerset Motel, Stardust, Starlite Motel, Swimming lady, The Mint, Thunderbird, Tod Motor Motel, Tropicana (3), Vegas Chalet, Vegas Motel, The Westerner, Westward Ho and the Yucca Motel. Ladez
Looks great! I have this tutorial bookmarked from a long time ago, but I never got around to downloading and watching it. Don't know if there's anything in it that'll help you, but it's worth a shot.
