pwnageASSASSIN
Today while trying to open up OBSE after installing it. The first thing to pop up said, "You are using the 1.1.0.425 beta patch of Oblivion. upgrade to 1.2.0416." So I went to the official oblvion patch thing and downloaded it. When I double clicked on the unzipped file, it told me "Old File Not Found. However, a file of the same name was found. No update done since file contents don't match." What is wrong with my version...?
Fonger
official patch cannot install over beta patch Uninstall!!! oblivion then reinstall without the beta patch to allow you to install the official patch. IIRC there was an unofficial shortcut for this, but don't remember it any more it may be as simple as deleting the oblivion.exeanyway its worth a try to save a FULL uninstall/reinstall and be ABSOLUTELY certain you are applying the correct patch as the wrong one or the correct one for the wrong language will simply mangle your game. Jenrai
Need a lil more information to tell you exactly what patch you need, but it pretty much depends on your version of the game and where you got it. Firstly, what version of the game do you have? IIRC, the Game of the Year version doesn't install V1.00000 but a later one, which means you HAVE to install disk 2 of the GotY if you want your game to be fully up to date. On the bright side, you don't have to ass about downloading patches and stuff, because once you install Shivering Isles and Knights of the Nine from disk 2 you'll have the newest version (v1.2.0416 or something mad like that)If you don't have the GotY version, install it from the disk, then install Shivering Isles if you have it, wether you intend to play it or not (you can always just ignore the door if you don't. A good few mods need SI) Now... this bit is CRUCIAL... Before you do ANYTHING else, download the newest patch for your language and version of the game. If you have SI installed, download only the SI patch. It includes the patch for Oblivion. If you're using the English EU version of the game, and download the English US version of the patch, it'll kaput yer game, if it installs at all, so make sure its the same language as your game version too.Lastly, if you got your game from direct2drive, remember you'll need to get your patches from there too. They use their own special copyright protection that'll shoot down the patch... and unfortunately, a lotta attempts to mod the game. Hope that makes sense and helps a little.
