Thor. Posted June 30, 2014 Share Posted June 30, 2014 (edited) Eh i wouldn't need to use a titan z for my HD receiver upscales to 4k, in any source. i actually bought that tx-nr515 hd receiver. It predicted the future and now they are just getting noticed for the precision they have, they fit perfectly on a 4k tv. Onkyo set a new standard thats for sure. Blur is also evil witch tries to hide bad artifacts in the distance, a no go on my opinion. if you want realism you got a simulate the world as is, Funny enough Forza and Project cars are heading in that direction with simulating particle weather instead of painting the sky blue. I have a little more respect for forza sense they dropped microtransactions. Oh and gta v for pc will stand out as the most realistic game, real gameplay footage :teehee: Yeah, DOF is mostly used the hide nastiness in the background, it's not even remotely realistic, the human eye/brain doesn't process images like that. Another evil is motion blur, it can never be accurate without input lag or the ability to see into the future and know where the camera is going to be pointed next, what we have these days is more like Vaseline smeared all over the screen. Realistic graphics are only one part of creating realistic scenes, if the animations, physics or AI are wrong then the illusion is gone no matter how good the visuals. We can move our eyes to survey our entire FOV, but in games you can't move your eyes to focus on a position so DOF becomes an ugly unrealistic hindrance. Sometimes I look at screenshots and wonder how the player can see where they're going, it's OK artistically for screenshots but I wouldn't want to play like it. Games don't need DOF, the eyes react to a virtual world on screen in exactly the same way they do in the real world, the eyes still focus on the point of interest with the rest covered by peripheral vision.
