GooeyGungan
Hey, everyone!I have been using Oblivion for a while without much going wrong, aside from some issues with mods (which are to be expected). When I first installed Oblivion on my computer, I had to install the extra content from the GotY edition on an XP computer, and then copy it to my Vista (gaming) computer. I then went to get the 1.2. patch, but when I tried to install the Shivering Isles version, an error message appeared. I decided to try the "normal" Oblivion 1.2 patch, which worked fine. I've had no other issues related to this since, except that if I try to enable the Unofficial Shivering Isles Patch, I get a CTD right after the Bethesda logo. I thought nothing of this for a long time, until I remembered the FormID bug that the 1.2 patch was supposed to fix. I have yet to actually go into the Shivering Isles in my game, due to all the content I've gotten from mods, so I'm not sure how buggy/not buggy it might be. However, my game has seemed a tad slower as of late, and I started wondering if it could be due to the FormID problem. Also, this is a fairly new character, as my computer had been having unrelated issues for a while, so I'd been playing Oblivion on my Xbox. Long story short, my question is this:Has anyone had any issues with the SI 1.2 patch? If so, is there a solution? If not, will the "normal" Oblivion 1.2 patch fix the FormID problem even if SI is installed? Sorry for the long winded post, I just wanted to include as much relevant information as possible. Thanks!-GG
Maigrets
I don't know which patches the GOTY edition comes with as I still have the original DVD, plus the SI and KOTN originals. But, in the case of the original if you have Shivering Isles installed you must NOT use the Oblivion 1.2 only patch, but the one for SI because it patches Oblivion as well. This is probably why you're getting the CTD. The FormID bug was fixed in both the Oblivion only and SI patch. http://www.uesp.net/wiki/oblivion:patch If your game is slower than usual it's more likely due to other things. Regularly Defrag your HDD's and other general maintenance helps. Try closing down background programs etc. Think about whether you've added any system intensive mods lately, like large quests that have many scripts running, texture packs, overhauls, etc. The more you do in game, the larger you saves will be and if you have a lot of mods the saves will increase more. This isn't a bug. It's normal because the save records every action you take, level ups, items collected and discarded, and changes added and removed by mods. An exception to this is "save bloat" which is caused by scripts using "placeatme" and too many persistent items which never get removed by cell reset. This can be fixed with Wrye Bash quite easily. Search for Bben's article about Vista and it's related issues, but I think if you install the game to the C: root directory rather than the default it will fix your problems. Or just use XP like I do and have a problem free experience.
LFact
If you already installed all GoTY discs, you don't need to patch, I heard. Just check the version if it is 1.2.0416.
bben46
The 'normal' oblivion patch (Non SI) Should not be installed if you have SI because It causes problems. By copying stuff from one computer to another, you have bypassed the normal install that places some entries in your Windows registry, which causes problems which will probably show up when you try to play SI. If you have managed to avoid the built in feature of the normal install that prevents you from installing the Oblivion only patch when you have SI, then you have probably wrecked your install beyond help. GOTY includes the latest patch - You do not have to go anywhere to get it. It is included on the SI part of the install and NOT the Oblivion part of the install. Here is a link to my complete uninstall/reinstall procedure located in the articles section of the Nexushttp://www.tesnexus.com/articles/article.php?id=240 Please don't try any shortcuts with this reinstall procedure - Hundreds of people have used it and it works. Nope, I installed all GOTY discs (there were two: normal oblivion on cd1, SI and KOTN on cd2) and you have to patch it yourself.Just download the patch (I think it's 1.2.0416-but the SI version if you use SI, if you use the normal Oblivion patch SI doesn't work) and patch it up. bben46
You are the first person I have heard say the patch is not part of the GOTY version. Every other report says it is as LFact says a part of the GOTY version of Oblivion. And is only applied when the SI disk is installed.
Qwaxalot
I doubt that there's more than one version of GOTY. In my install Disk 2 (SI & KOTN), the game was correctly updated to V1.2.0416, no additional patches needed. This is also confirmed on the Bethesda site. I think that it's possible that occasionally the 2nd disk doesn't install correctly.

GooeyGungan
My problem is that the extra content (SI&KotN) CD won't work on my computer, as I have Windows Vista. From what I've heard, there is some issue with the copy protection not being compatible with anything newer than XP. Because of this, I installed Oblivion and the extra content on an XP computer, and then copied the extra ESP and BSA files. Also, the regular Oblivion patch worked, and Oblivion runs without issue. That said, I haven't tried doing anything in SI or KotN.Maybe there's some registry entry that I'm missing?
MonsterHunterMaster
What?Of course SI and KOTN work on vista and win 7...Just install it from the cd at your win vista/7 pc.But use another install directory than the default won(Install it not on C:\Program Files\Oblivion.Install it for example on C:\Games\Oblivion)
