Very strange texture issue

ok so...after installing certain mods, moira browns shop, the npcs in megaton and the traders outside rivet city all have the red triangles, purple arms and in moiras shop, the lockers,workbench etc have constantly changing textures. If i pull out a gun and fire, it will have no sound and i cant access my menus then the game crashes shortly after

 

i cant remember all the mods it happens with as there have been quite a few but i just tried h.e.r.k,point look out reborn, the pipboy hi res texture and the fallout wasteland expansion mod. i thought maybe my d/l of nmcs texture pack had been corrupted so i tried it again and the issue is still there. as soon as i uninstall one of the mentioned mods, its all going 100% perfectly again, 60+ fps, the lot. have tried toggling archiveinvalidation to no avail.

You hit the mark where your game will behave like that, skipping textures, crashing, and more due to the sheer number of mods you have, I count 202, that's too much even for a very well tweaked and stable system. At one point I had 198 and same thing occured, I had to get down to 187 and that's the maximum limit for my system to behave correctly, I go up to 188 and strange thing start to occur, like crashes on fast travel for example, go up to 189-198 and it occurs more and more frequently. For other less stable systems this esp number goes even down more before crashes start

 

There are ways to decrease your load order by merging many .esp into one, mine is at 187 now with many many merges, but if you never did this before read google about it and tutorials as you can screw your game up badly if you make an error

ok i've tried merging esps and its worked!, think itd be best if i merge a few more, what ones would you recommend i merge going by my load order? iv done ultimate perk pack into 1 and rh ironsights into another

Careful merging perk packs, I merged the Ultimate one and Dree's Perks all in one BUT doing so will have all perks that have floating variables set these to value 0 ! This doesn't make your game crash BUT you can face a terrible problem later on that will leave you baffled for a solution, in my case it made me give up on my first character I played for over 250 hours and restart a new game lol.

 

Because it happened again with the next one and I didn't want to give up this time I looked for days and I found out that merging the perks was the culprit. For example I had merged my perks and I have perks that make my damage with weapons go up the more kills you get with a type of weapon, for example if I kill 1000 ennemies with small weapons I would get 10% additional damage, in the perk formula there was a floating variable of 1.10 but merging it made it a 0 (zero) so you guessed it, once I hit the 1000 mark all my small weapons had damage output of ZERO rendering them useless!!! To fix that I had to correct my perks line per line and correct every floating variable comparing them to the original non merged ones! And that was again days in real time work in FO3Edit....

 

In your load order I merged all the DLC files of MMM into one and some of FWE into one also, but again carefull, if merges cannot be made the utility will tell you, never merge esp's that contain the same records, the tool will spawn a warning so respond no when it wants to rename a record to something else, it will break your esp

 

I don't use Ironsights but I guess you could merge all those into one also, same thing for the CRAFT, Real Interior Lighting and WMK ones, I also made three merged files that contain 90% of housing and quest mods I use, however if you do so you will have to redo the quests and lose everything and all loot you got from them. I also merge every weapon mod in one file and every clothing in one file per body type, for example : Type6merged.esp, Type3merged.esp

 

To save even more space you could directly include or override dependent plugins with their master in FO3Edit and make only one esp or esm out of them. For example your have Kat Companion and an additional esp that changes her hair, open these in FO3Edit and just copy the info that's in the hair file to the main file and then you can safely delete the hair file and gain another slot, there are many possibilities but eventually you will hit the maximum barrier again as I did lol

 

Edit: There are mods that absolutely don't work if merged, they're not many but they exist and merging them anyway will yield no warning whatsoever but they won't work in your game, you will have missing objects, fall through the floor etc... and if they're not merged they're fine. So it's good to always have a backup, remember that, always backup multiple copies + at least a thousand saves lol

Brilliant, thats confirmed what i worked out :) yeah i tried merging better life through chems and it said it had to rename it so i cancelled (glad i did). As for the perks i only merged UPP's esps into one and kept Dree seperate (again the renaming thing) so far its all going grand!

 

i'll do all the ones you recommended except FWE as that mod is the core of my game and i dont like to mess with it! I havent started the quest for heaven series on this playthrough so i guess i'll merge them seeing as they're quite big mods.

i use CASM so i have about 2000 saves atm lol been playing this char for 31 hours now and shes only just hit level 11, my game is stupidly hard :P, only way it would be harder is with Arwens Realism Tweaks but sadly it doesn't work with FWE and thats a mod i cant live without :P

Thanks a lot for the all info, it's greatly appreciated, espcially as the original problem i had was really starting to bug me lol
