Cyanidepuppet
Reading threw the descriptive and well thought out install manuals presented by members, i find myself ever the more frustrated, reading threw forums you have solved my geck file problems and even enlightened me on a couple more subjects, however most mods require a change in a file labled Fallout 3.ini..... its sad to say i cannot find this folder as if it does not exist. I was having this problem with my making custom mods, going threw the geck i could find the file while saving and delete it, restore it from my recycle bin and the file would operate just fine, i honestly wonder if it would be better to go back to operating windows XP >.< If this problem has anything to do with the OS... i am new to custom map making and the only other thing i have worked on is UT99s UED2.0, if you are familiar with this problem i would like to know what this OS is if thats the problem and how to locate it. Thnx for all the support and patients with helping me.
pkleiss
I have XP, but I think the location of the ini files is the same: Documents and Settings\My Documents\My Games\Fallout 3 and its 'through' not 'threw' (sorry, just had to say it)
Skotte
I have XP, but I think the location of the ini files is the same: Documents and Settings\My Documents\My Games\Fallout 3 and its 'through' not 'threw' (sorry, just had to say it) I've heard that Win 7 uses the same method as Vista so "C:\Users\<UserName>\Documents\My Games\Fallout3" would be a likely location to check
Cyanidepuppet
Gotcha.... But there is no ini file listed, which was a problem i was having with the geck, i know where the file is supposed to be, but like the Backup folder its just not there. Anyone got any references for hair styles/faces ex. ex. that dont involv ini, i can change the NPC looks on my own now and there oh so fiew good hair styles.... and i am not good at customizing faces directly... SHyeA!! big time, i am most likely going to switch back to XP.... this Win7 has me on a short fuse.

bben46
I use Win7. and the Fallout3.ini is on mine. That file is not created until you start the game and make your first save. Look in C:\users\user name\my documents\my games\fallout3. The user name may be different, I have 3 different user names on my system that I use for different things.Typically the user name is the name you log in by So if you log in as 'your name' look under that user name. If you log in as 'Default' look there, and if y log in as Public, look there
Cyanidepuppet
gotcha, but i have two drives, and i saved it in my new volume D, i know where my fallout 3 is stored, and i know where the ini is supposed to be, its odd that the file shows up for you n not me, i looked on a friends PC, and he has no Fallout3.ini but he has two ini files labled medium and hard, i am thinking i just need to install windows XP, this Win7 really gets to me. I still have no clue where this file is, i have saved game data n i have skimmed through every folder in my bethesda file.
Cyanidepuppet
Alright, i uninstalled and re-installed it, it kinda fixed the problem, i have three or four ini files now, and the correct one was labled Fallout_default.ini .... Odd no doubt! Good quote ben..

Odd no doubt! Good quote ben..indeed very odd, "Fallout_default.ini" is the one that should be in FO3's install location, not in user documents & I don't believe it's one to even touch
