Sfumato
Is it just me, or are the settlements in Fallout 3 quite... stupid? Megaton and Rivet City are both quite small for settlements 200 years after the war. And neither of them are very self sufficient. They don't have farms or big bramin pens like Arefu does, or even the Republic of Dave. And those two are just teeny tiny things, with 10 people or less! Evergreen Mills, the raider place, is MUCH more realistic a settlement. Its large, self-sufficient, and FUN as well. Because who would want to sit in a bar all post-apocolypse? People are always going to be looking for whores. So, my question is, why aren't there any mods to fix these issues? I know there is Arefu expanded, a mod I personally use, and Megaton Underground. But why isn't Big Town upgraded a little? Or Republic of Dave? Canterbury Commons? Girdershade? And heck, if someone made a mod that changed the Evergreen Mills settlement friendly, I would endorse and kudos the hell out of the author. evilneko
'cos if they'd included all of that, they'd still be working on it. It's a common thing in video games to see towns and cities that, as presented in-game, can't possibly be self-sustaining.
Sfumato
That's very true, but there should be mods that make it at least a LITTLE bit more beleivable.
Tony the Wookie
So why arn't YOU making a mod with better settlements? Answer that question and you will have your answer.

Alastair91
There are working in progress/beta mods to fix the problem. Here's some of them: http://img67.imageshack.us/img67/6710/lordreaper.png - AWE Attentater wasteland Economyhttp://www.fallout3nexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=11035 - Crowded cities v2http://www.fallout3nexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=8556 - Expanding Megaton ModOR (Use one of them only)http://www.fallout3nexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=7427 - Megaton Expansion Project V03 There are plenty more mods to improve current cities/city surroundings. I suggest going into building category and search for top endorsed files in descending order.
evilmicevil
but think about this man...the fallout world isnt run by humans its run by monsters. big @ss bugs, freaks, super mutants, ect. It would be rare for a person to try and stay in one place to long, worryed that that place will soon be a war zone, megaton is filled with passerbys, people looking for some quick caps and maybe some sexual relief. only a few people live there and they might find themselfs sick and dieing the next day.. so the town mostly stays the same for years and years.. but i understand that this mod would be cool and i hope someone makes it
