Quests Disappearing from Journal

For a while now I have been dealing with an annoying glitch in the quest journal. Quests from the bottom of my completed list, or details of completed quests (the list of different steps the quest went through) will disappear. In addition, quests in the misc. category will disappear as well. The quests will always disappear from the bottom up. I know the quest isn't completely gone, because quest markers for the quests that have disappeared from the misc journal will still be present, and talking to NPCs and such will make the quest reappear in the journal.

I have had a similar problem. Not sure about completed quests as I have never gone back to check them. However, mine seem to disappear when I go to solstheim. Mainly the misc quests. they are still active because if I do one of the objectives the quest will reappear. I went back to a previous save and wrote down the ones that had vanished then continued on. On this playthrough I have not been to solstheim yet but I hate the thought of going because I have so many open quests. I doubt this helped any but just know you are not alone.

I'm having the same problem. Some of my active quests have gone and with each passing hour or two of gameplay another completed quest will also disappear from my quests list. Does anyone know what causes this or have any idea for a solution. At this rate my quests list will be empty before too long !

This is happening to me too. Skyrim patch number 1.1.14.534571.8 on Nintendo Switch. No mods, but this edition comes with the Dragonborn, Hearthfire, and Dawnstar DLCs bundled.

I had left the main quest for a long time while I worked on other faction quests, and then one day I went to look for it, and it was gone from the quest journal. When I went to continue the quest, by looking up the next quest in the quest line on UESP (which for me, was The Horn of Jurgen Windcaller), obtaining the next quest item did restore it to my quest log.

I feel like there are other quests missing too, as my quest journal used to be much longer I believe, but it's hard to be sure, or to say what they might be. I could load an old save, but I prune them pretty frequently when I run out of room for saves, and anyway it's hard to comb through the long list.

But at least I know that I used to have "speak to the Jarl of Falkreath" that ElrazielMoon mentioned, and that's missing. And the Dawnguard main quest is missing.

I have spent a significant amount of time in Solstheim, so snyperki11er's theory is consistent with my experience, though I don't remember when the quests went missing and so cannot verify the trigger.

I guess as long as I'm able to still do the quests if/as I remember them, it's not such a big deal. A little annoying though.
