Better Familiar

Mmm.. Is it possible to make Candlelight spell (Or magelight? Which one is it?)

That doesn't have the blue orb floating around?

Maybe give him a permanent/toggleable Mage Light spell effect/aura so he lights up the area around him if that's even possible.

That's what I am playing around with using candlelight the LightFFself, had to make a new spell version that was constant instead of fire and forget. Didn't work with my first few attempts but still playing with it. Once I figure it out atronachs are next, also thinking about making a healing summon with the wispmother 60 seconds of healing and like bound weapons with there weapon cross modifiers her healing is going to be modified by the players restoration skill.

Wow that looks great! And sounds loke exactly what I've been looking for myself. I just want a conjurable familiar that scales alongside the character as a balanced, summonable follower. But you definitely added one better by adding a thrall version as well.

Would you be willing to share your mod, or give some advice as to how I and others can do the same?

Sure I can. When finished I'll submit it to nexus and let ya know when it's available.

When this is finished, you have one definite download! And endorsement, if I don't forget (Probably will, sorry XD). Just curious as you never specified, at the highest level will the familiar be permanent unless killed or another thing is conjured? If not, would it be possible to make this? Thanks :).

LoL. The thrall familiar max level is 50, it is permanent until death/replaced. If you have don't have Twin souls anything summoned while he is out will replace him like all other summons. If you do have twin souls you will be able to summon 2 but I'm not sure it should apply to Aodhfionn. He is unique but until I figure how to tweak it to allow only 1 Aodhfionn and any other summon for the twin souls perk there will be 2.

90 Conjuration? Why? What's the point of having it level with the player from a minimum of 2 if it's going to require 90 Conjuration? Most players would be around level 20 by the time they leveled that stat alone to 90. It's not like you'd be getting a super power.

I would be interested in seeing the Familiar meant to be player-controlled with abilities meant for taking advantage of that, there are a few I can come up with, basically your DnD Familiar Tactics 101:

Activated abilities

- Lure Prey(like Throw Voice, except the Familiar returns to the player via pathfinding)

- Growl(Combat: area of effect, targets suffer penalties to armor and stamina)

- Mangle(Combat: single, target has a chance to be staggered, AI targets nearest enemy attacking the player)

Passives

- Perception(Detect Life+Undead, limited radius)

- Trap Sense(trap triggers are highlighted, your choice of color :)

- Alpha Predator(prey and canine creatures suffer health/stamina debuff)

- Guard Animal(bark to notify the proccing of a radiant event(M'aiq the Liar, Talsgar, Giant vs Dragon etc)

Player controls

- sneak(Ctrl/L3)

- "fetching"(being able to pick up one item of appropriate weight or proportion via mouth and returning to the player, activate player to transfer said item to player's inventory)

So that's a very tall order, but it would be pretty neat. Better yet, include other animals to conjure. Skeevers could have disease-related debuffs for combat abilities, hawks could, heh, "go for the eyes" or whatever. Hope you like these ideas or thought of some of your own, would be nice to have a Familiar that takes on more than just the role of combat ally.

To explain the 90 conjuration...

I made my familiar "thrall" spell it scales at 15 to 50 also figured out how to add it to level list and it is only available after 90 conjuration and completion of the conjuration ritual

It's for the THRALL version, not the normal familiar.

As for all those effects, he did say he was new to the Creation Kit, and all of those are fairly advanced requests requiring scripting to cause them to trigger correctly.

@DaemonGrin Very nice job on this. If you keep running into issues trying to make it light the surroundings let me know, I'll try to help with it.

Aww. I sure hope someone experienced is lurking on this thread, because that stuff would be cool. Tell me none of those ideas would be great to add for conjuration levelers and mages in general.

I'm sorry, I didn't clarify.

Active:

  • Lure prey would be difficult to do, I suppose you could do something similar to the follower "I need you to do something"
  • Growl/Mangle might be easy assuming they were abilities the FAMILIAR uses, and not you triggering them to do so.

Passive:

  • Perception/trap sense, Could be done as an effect on you activated when you summon the familiar pretty easily.
  • Alpha predator, could also be done easily, a cloak-like effect around your pet (I believe you could use jzargo's flamecloak as a way to learn how to specify an enemy type)
  • Guard Animal would very likely demand scripting (no clue how you'd do it).

Player Controls:

  • Sneak (I assume you mean when you sneak, so do they), This would have to do with AI packages I think. (I've not looked into WHY followers sneak when you do but animals do not) but since normal animals don't have it you might need to steal it off (or recode one if you really wanted).
  • Fetch, This would almost certainly require scripting...though you may be able to enable their inventory and do it that way

In other news I've been distracted for an hour or so trying to figure out a way to make the familiar glow, my attempts have failed so far though.

EDIT: As far as I can tell, it would take a script to enable a light on a summoned creature (unless you cast a spell on it, or it casts one in combat). The methods that should work without scripting, don't.
