I am not disagreeing with you, I just don't have a good grasp on how the Effect Shaders and Image Space Modifiers work together. And I can't test out new settings without saving the mod and loading up the game. If you want to play with the settings yourself and see if you can come up with something better, I would be delighted. My area of expertise is with scripting, but my 3-D artistic talents are minimal at best. I think I need to make some kind of emmisive/glow texture to apply to the effect shaders to allow them to shine like a light source, then perhaps what you ask for could be accomplished. As it is, when I darken the surroundings, I also darken the actors and they become hard to see, which defeats the purpose of the mod. The normal textures on actors are not emmisive, so adding an effect shader to them does not make them glow. I'll ask around how to do this and see if I can't figure it out. If you do want to try this out yourself, everything I made in the mod starts with a 'PK' for easy searching.

i dont think that it has to be changed much more that it is. i like the other slightly more opaque one you did (number 2). try just over half way between the two, closest to the first lot and i reckon thats a perfect balance. i am so greatful. a fantastic addition to my armory.

when you bare in mind what technology would be availible in the current climate of FO3, i think that a slightly unrefined approach reflects the realism of what would be leftover repaired stuff.

Okay, for simplicity's sake, I've gone ahead and made the effect in between the last to sample pics I made. Here are three new pics:

Showing both in the day

Distant in the Day

Distant at Night

Link removed, see below for new link.

You can see that the actors are not as pronounced this way. I can always make a new version if and when I learn how to add some emmisive property to the shader.

Tyr it out and see if you think its better this way. If you think its good, I'll post it up on the Nexus as Version 1.

this should be a hotkeyed perk as well :D I'd probably use it that way more than anything. haha. Just read through this thread, and it looks like you've got some really amazing stuff going, Old Hand. I'm looking forward to a finished product in the (near?) future.

honestly I would've preferred something stronge,r as in midway between sample 1 and your original. In your distant pics, it's pretty hard to make out the far away people, when I thought the point of this mod was making it easier to identify people when they would otherwise be obscure.

still, this is a great mod and I'd love it anyway =). Would it be possible to make it customizable, or simply upload two files with different alpha levels? tyvm

I personally like the stronger effect as well, for the same reason. It seems I am trying to please all of the people all of the time. But since this post was started by the_dissent, I figured I'd give his opinion the most consideration. I could make it customizable, but every additional check in the script reduces performance a bit. So maybe I'll just make 3 types, strong, average and weak. I am still trying to get a grasp of the effect shader. I am down to trying to figure out how to make a .dds file that has an emmisive or glow property. I just don't know how to do that. I would like to have some kind of glowing aura around the actors. I'll work on making the three types and post a link to an archive with all three, then each individule can use the one they like best. Its not too hard to make them at this point. Just a few minor changes to the effect shaders and voila - a new version. I should be able to do it within an hour or so.

Alright. I'm done with this for a while. I have made an archive file with three versions: Low, Med & High Effect. You can only load any one of the three ESPs at a time. I have also included example pictures with the archive; two each, day and night, for each level of effect.

Here are the sample pics:

Low Day

Low Night

Med Day

Med Night

High Day

High Night

The pictures really don't do it justice, you're just going to have to try them out yourself.

And here is a Link to the archive. Note that you will need FOSE to run this mod!

Everyone who downloads the archive and tests out the three versions should post back here with their favorite and that one will become the Nexus file.

Done and Done.

Hmm. Would it be possible to have low during day time and high for night/indoors? Right now, high seems too glaring during the day. And for some reason medium/low look like they're very faded during the night time. Plus it makes sense that during the day the thermal image would be a bit obscured.

haha sorry to complicate things. You've done an amazing job already. sadly can't get to play fo3 til tomorrow, but you know my vote already =) go with high
