Mmorpgs And Why They Suck...

Ok boys and girls... After reading the first couple of posts I just have to get it! >_< lol

My friends have been trying to convince me to play WoW, but EVE sounds much much better! Too bad, back in the day (2001 or 2002), when EVE was in open beta stage, my computer was a pos, so I could not run it, even though I was registered. Oh well, better late than never! ^_^

Btw, I did try The Face of Humanity back when it was a... ugh... either alpha or beta, back then it confused the heck out of me, but I thought it was a cool idea. It has a very heavy Deus Ex feel to it, should check it out.

Yeah, it's definitely worth it.

I just recently got around to re-setting my account up, all I need to do is visit my bank to get the transaction sorted and then 4-6 working days later I can play again!

The great thing about EVE is you get to keep your account forever, they never shut it down even when your money runs out. So I can basically go back to my Omen-wielding character that I used to have! YAY!

Suzerain's story is AWESOME!!! Man, i really want this game now. The makers of eve should pay you , suzerain, cause this is getting me more excited about eve than any commercial or trailer could.

It's suprising to me that the game is only 20$ while its 15$ a month. From the looks of the game I was expecting 60$ to get the game.

So Vaanic, if you just stop paying the monthly fee, you can't play the game, but your characters are still safe? Cause I play my games in binges sorta and I want to know if I can just stop having to pay and then start it up again. How does that work?

They'll keep your characters for up to 6 months after you stop paying. At least that's what they promise... in reality, they don't ever delete them. You just can't count on it after 6 months... they may clean up all those old characters at some future point.

Well, I haven't tryed Eve Online, but I've tryed A LOT of MMORPGs, such as:

Ragnarok Online

Lineage 2

Guild Wars

World of Warcraft

Flyff

R.O.S.E.

Dark Ages

Tibia (Don't ask... Just DON'T ASK!!!)

Honestly, what bugs me the most is the control type, and the gameplay in general.

I mean... It's mostly the SAME thing, over and over again. Click on the enemy, watch your character auto-attack it, while you use skills every once in a while.

And what bugs me the most is that in some RPGs, before launch, they promise a new and improved gameplay, but... IN THE END, IT'S JUST THE SAME!!!

Take a look at Cabal Online, for example. They call that "Revolution of Action", but in the end, it's the same thing, but only with a faster hotkey-mashing...

Crud... Is it that hard to make a new battle system? Look at Oblivion!!! Look at "Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time"!!! Is it THAT hard?

Is it that hard to make a true-action battle system? I don't think so... If they think a bit, and if they try to make things organized, it's not that hard at all!!!

I've created (in theory, only. I dunno how to program) an MMORPG system with full action battles, and a new economy system, as well as character creation and customization. It'll still be an MMORPG, but with a new face...

If someone's interested, I'll tell about that system. But not now, because i gotta turn off the PC, and besides... The explanation will take all day to write down... :P

But if it's an action oriented battle system, then in reality all what it would be is a multiplayer FPS with some pretty fleshed out background story.

Plus, didn't Star Wars Galaxies already develop the FPS style battle mode? I know that when you fight you go to FP with a laser gun and have to manualy shoot it at your enemy. So it'd be like that, but with swords.

Or am I just high?

In addition, the one lousy drawback of EVE is the fact that since it's for a casual gamer, it's hard to play religiously since it's summer over here in Cali. I'd rather be at the gym shooting hoops or out on the local lake lookin at the ubiquitous "California Girls" than sitting in front of a PC screen all day (I do that at my job, go figure). The awesome ability to train skills offline, in the summer, leaves little intiative to play EVE atm. I could just focus train my char, and by the fall or winter have a pretty fleshed out dude. Guarenteed, come wintertime, it'll be an EVE extravaganza, since going outside is out of the question.

Hahahaha... I'd figure someone would point that out! ;)

Believe me, it's not similar to an FPS at all. Except for the archer-type jobs, and stuff like that. But the main mechanics would be like "Zelda: Ocarina of Time".

Lock on your target, and walk around it, to dodge attacks, and stuff. To attack, you would have to go near your target manually, and strike manually with the mouse button.

If you haven't played Zelda... Well, try to imagine an Oblivion with a "lock on" feature. Not exactly the same thing, but you get the idea.

Also, the movements in Zelda are a LOT diferent from the ones ya got in FPS engines. I dunno why, but although we got Havoc 2.0 and stuff like that, There are things that I find In some FPS engines that look kinda unnatural. Like the "strafing", for example... Is it that hard to make a better animation when the character is strafing to the side while walking to the front? It looks like they are sliding.

Anyway, no, my system is not related to an FPS engine. Only for the bows, but even those will have an interface similar to Resident Evil 4, but with the obvious adaptations to an MMORPG. Also, this system would have combos, which is something that you wouldn't find in an FPS game... :P

Well... I'm creating this system, and in the end, I won't be able to create it, since I dunno how to program, nor anything... I'm only an amatour graphics designer... :P

That's kinda... weird.

Wow cant believe EVE is still going. I played it for about a year in 2002. The dynamic aspect of it is amazing. But the LAG, OMG the LAG! and the PATCHES. I would develop a strategy, work on it for months, perfect it, then they would "re-balance" and I would literally be at sqaure 1 again. That was annoying, all the patches. Plus the bugs, so many of them, and it seemed to just get worse and worse. I dont know if this all has been improved in the last few years but I give them credit for making such a unique and different game.

One other problem was as a casual gamer who enjoys the outdoors, it took too much time to get anywhere. A big raid or mining mission could take many many hours.
