Impereal city - Unique districs (Trouble installing)

Recommended Posts

I feel sad that my first post was one of a cry for help. So i say hello.

Ok so i am having a problem installing the Impereal city - unique districts mod. I followed the instructions exactly, which were to place all of the Esp. files in my Oblivion/Data folder. So i do this, then load up Oblivion and activate the files. But nothing happens, impereal city is still it's boring self. Now I also tried to install the OMOD version of it. I downloaded it, and straight away it loaded up OBMM, and all i needed to do was activate it. I thought i was on the road to victory(Victory for the win!) but unstead I was on the path to a cess pile of shame, as again the mod had not installed. I do not know why, as i am only new to this, and cannot figure out what to do. So i am asking for your help. How do i install this mod!

Thanks in advance.

I use better cities IC, so I dunno about ImpeREAL City, but the common issues here would be;

Not checking the esm/esps in the launcher;

Plain old Oblivion launcher:

Go to data files tab on the splash screen and check the box beside the mod name to activate the mod

Wrye Bash:

Do the same on the main bash page - make sure the Esps/esms are checked

Mod Manager:

As above but the main mod manager page OR if you've still got it installed via OMOD look to the OMODs pane on the right and the mod should be in there. Highlight the mod (clickity) and click the activate button at the bottom of the list.

Not having the prerequisite files;

Check the mod's read me file for any required files. Seriously. There's a reason its in there. Things like OBSE, when a mod tells you it needs OBSE, that would be because... ohm... it needs OBSE. Most mods that use OBSE won't initialise without it. Others will crash your game if its not there.

Not installing the meshes/textures;

Unlikely as you installed it from an OMOD script, but if your ESP is looking for a mesh thats not in the data folder, you'll either have missing items or great big yella "WTF!" signs everywhere. And if the textures are missing but the meshes are present, you'll have purple/black items with no colouring (the texture is basically the 'skin' of the item)

Hope something there helps a little bud. Let us know.

First, do not create 3 topics about the same thing. Second, look to see if the mod has any requirements, and if it does make sure you download, and install them. Third I would suggest getting BOSS and running it every time you install a new mod so the load order is correct. If these things don't help, then we'll go from there.

EDIT: Seems Jenrai beat me to replying.

I am not a sily person, i do read the readmes before installing, most mods have a differant install, so it's kinda hard not too, and it doesn't say that it needs OBSE. It comes with no folders, just the ESP. files and the readme, so i can't data swap in the oblivion/data file. I'm going to quote the installation instructions here:

"Just place the .esp file to Oblivion/Data and enable it!

If you want to uninstall it, just delete the .esp file! Simple!"

So, no OBSE, just ESP. files. And the specifically modified one for Omoding, i think, only comes with esp. files, although i never actually viewed what was in it, with the sudden opening of OBMM. So i don't know. But people have installed it, obviously, so i don't know what i'm doing wrong.

Didn't mean to say you were silly mate. I've seen 100s of people get problems, post here, go back, read the readme and go "oh... nvm... fixxed it now. oops"

Just had a lil' brain wave... what version of windows are you using?

If its 7 or Vista you need to take particular actions when installing/using mods or the UAC will shoot them down. And more so if you've installed it to the default directory (the program files folder has extra protection from the UAC)

Check Bben's articles on the Nexus file servers for more info on that pesky UAC and using mods with windows vista & win 7.

If you're using XP, or those articles don't help, a load order list might help me (or one of the other useful folks here and hereabouts) figure out whats wrong faster.

You need a load list for BOSS to work with. It is a list of all of your active mods in the order they are loaded from top (loaded first) to bottom (loaded last). What BOSS does is sort your load list based on a database of what mods work in what order.

The data list you see in the game is not a true load list - it's usually in alphabetical order, not load list order.

The easiest way to see a true load list is using OBMM. And that is the list people want to see when they ask for a load list.

How to post a Load order list article

Note: 'Just deleting an esp' does not fully remove a mod. It will leave behind all of the meshes and textures to cause problems.

Some changes aren't instantaneous once you've added an ESP to the game. Try this:

1) Move your character to an inner cell, such as a store.

2) Save the game in a new slot, and quit completely.

3) Reload that last save. Step outside the store, and see if the changes have been implemented.

Are you using the omod version? If so, what color is the dot alongside the ImpeREAL listing in OBMM?
