FPS issue (basically no mods)

Greetings,

Before I really start to install any mods, I'm checking up on how everything's working, and I've noticed I'm having an FPS issue going on. It's not major, but it's annoying and possibly eye-achey, so I'd rather find out what's going on (plus there's always the worry that it will get worse if it's there already).

It seems to be present around any source of light especially, but outdoors it just is there, all the time, sometimes just like a "flicker" (though not black-screen-black-screen flicker or anything like that), just as if I was having a bit too little FPS.

Then it gets worse and jerkier when I go forward to a part I haven't "seen" yet, as if it had some loading lag. From what I gather, it should not be happening.

- I have settings on ultra, but I've tried lowering them to no effect

- when I tried to make resolution smaller (afair I did it before to remedy this), everything got pixelated and quite ugly, mystery :tongue:

- I got an FPS-limiter mod, tried running on 30, 45, 60 and both 0 and 2 for the input lag option, there's no difference whatsoever

- tried going with Realistic Lighting Overhaul, it looks much prettier, but nothing changes with the FPS issue, inside or outside

- tried using Hialgo mod, but it didn't even seem to work, at least not the f10 thing

My PC specs:

Intel Core i5-2300, 2.80 gHz

Nvidia GeForce GTX 550 Ti

Ram 8.2 GB

It should be working better than this, shouldn't it? :sad:

Thank you.

I've tried Googling more around this in the morning, I've found a dozen solution, and none of them working. Found out it's called Microstutter issue. So I googled more that way and tried:

- turning anti-aliasing off doesn't help

- turning shadows to low doesn't help

- when I booted from single core, the game didn't work at all, I could barely move

- i updated my nVidia drivers to the most recent ones

- i tried running in windowed mod, no change at all

It can run smoother when I put everything and their dog on Low, but even then, it wasn't entirely smooth.

I'm at loss of what to do.

You never told us what your fps is. If it is above 30 you are getting more than the console players already.

But you are right that adding mods can only make it worse.

It's not abysmal, it's the Microstutter thing, it seems that tons of people have this issue, but I've tried all of their recommended fixes without luck :( It gets more choppy when I move or turn around, it's just not smooth.

Skyrim may not like your mouse...

Make sure Mouse accel is OFF in the INI file also make sure game pad is disabled...

Skyrimprefs.ini is in..{user name}\Documents\My Games\Skyrim

The Controls section...

  Quote

[Controls]
fGamepadHeadingSensitivity=1.0000
fMouseHeadingSensitivity=0.0125
bAlwaysRunByDefault=1
bInvertYValues=0
bGamePadRumble=0<<<<
bMouseAcceleration=0<<<
bUseKinect=0<<<

By default these are set to a (1) enabled. change the 1 to a (0) zero.. and save.

Hows the FPS and jitter now?

Not exactly sure what made my Jitter (micro stutter) go away...it was either the Above, or a combination of ...turning Vsync OFF in the Skyrim INI (and letting Nvidia handle it), adding an ENB, Tweaking the INI files for all Multi threaded tweaks <<,(13 at present) , OR just dumb luck , But I did have it bad, and it is now gone. ?

I will try those adjustments tomorrow, I just closed Skyrim to go to sleep.

But having played a bit more I've discovered that I actually had to turn off the Realistic Water Two, for example, even though it's supposed to be of no performance hit whatsoever. Makes me wonder why, but when I was around a waterfall my FPS felt like 5-10.

It's always awful when in new area, I do the trick with turning around first so things load, and the stutter diminishes, but it's still there. Makes me wonder, maybe it's something with memory then? I will try SSME tomorrow as well.

Hopefully installing and uninstalling (or turning plugins off in some cases) won't be an issue with mesh/texture mods. I've checked the water and its page said it was okay due to lack of scripts. No other visual improvement mod should have scripts, right? Especially those that don't even have plugins to activate. I mean things like improved embers etc. Logically no scripts, but what do I know xD

The FPS dropped considerably also when I entered an inn with more actors present. Again, memory? Hmpf.

Thank you for the reply.

On the flipside, I managed to install my mods and so far no explosions. Only a poor, bodyless vigilant of Stendarr on the road :P Some texture must be missing, but hell if I know which and why. I can live with occasional derpage like that.
