DA:Origins/Awakening

So I just bought Awakenings a few days ago (still have not played or loaded either game) and as I do everytime I buy a game I purchase the guide if available. Something that concerned me as I thumbed through the guide was a reference to DLC "power of blood school". Where this concerns me is if this DLC has to be paid for or if it is free.

A number of games companies are using this tactic to derive more money from people and it is rather disturbing. You just release a game and then expect (knowing full and well people want everything for said game) people to pay for DLC 3 days later?

Can anyone else shed light on this because as I stated earlier I have not played either game or loaded them yet so I don't know if it is free DLC or paid.

"Power of Blood" is indeed something one can acquire, (if one chooses to do so) at a certain point in "Wardens' Keep", which is indeed *paid* DLC.

I'm fine with the whole notion of the developers/publisher releasing additional material at a price later on, but the (current) decision to include ONLY the RtO items from DA:O moving into DA:A really makes me wonder. As someone on the BW social forum pointed out, if your PC's one weapon were from another DLC, you'll start "Awakening" fighting darkspawn with just your fists!

yeah, there was a thread on here a short while ago about somebody that was upset because of that very event happening to them. Woke up in Awakening to find themselves without weapons. Others have arrived butt nekkid.

The reason that they didnt supply the items/skills for DLC stuff is very simple, and we're it. The modders. If they supplied this stuff into the expansion, we'd eventually figure out how to access it and be giving peeps stuff that EA wants $$$ for, without peeps having to buy the DLC's.

There's a workaround for the issues with DLC items disappearing on transition. It's called The Winter Forge. It's been discovered that items that have been modified on the Winter Forge, WILL transition, regardless of if they are DLC armor/weapons, or not.

Tho, there's one really, really crappy part of this. Winter Forge requires you to acquire scrolls, in game, in order to be able to modifiy items, You have to acquire these scrolls in cities. If you are at an endgame save, you can no longer enter into any of the areas you need to go to get the scrolls!!

I am also slightly disappointed in Awakening. I found the characters and storyline rather vapid compared to the OC. I'd complain more, but I think I need to move to the spoiler section.

I believe that there are now mods available, which allow you to continue your DLC gear into Awakening.
