Kris015
Hello guys. Me and some other guys are trying to make a mod for Oblivion, it's quite big (like expansion big) so we need some help.Right now we are 2 writers and 2 voice artist (one pro with studio). We still need: Modelers, Scripters (or whatever you call it), animators, leveldesigner, and a concept artist (or just someone very skilled at drawing). The modeler needs to be quite experienced at making big/giant creatures like Dragons. Yeah the mod will involve a lot of dragonlike creatures (and dragons). The mod will be a new guild which will have a lot of new quests. Also lots of new creatures to slay, which will include dragons and other creatures. For more info or if you wanna help please PM me. (To the moderators: Please move this topic if this was not the right place to put it)
Pronam
I'll ask for a move. This usually isn't a good way of getting many people interested and it's also a moment to think how much time your project might take. Massive projects usually fail, even with many people or good plans. What is the project about and how big is big? Creating dragons from scratch, as with any creature..would take months. "A lot of dragons" simply implies it might take a year. There already some dragons out there...why not use those? It's also difficult to expect people like that to jump in a project that lasts for a long time to start off without any information. People are also very reluctant in sending a PM to beg for information, at first it's mostly on your side to get people interested as animators are really scarce and they usually tend to their own projects. Second is that people might not want to do it after all and therefore don't want to disappoint you. The more information you give the better.Cutscenes would be limited to using the mod screen-effects and to the ones already in vanilla like the db-cutscene.If you're familiar with fallout 3...it'll be difficult to impossible to do the same in oblivion. Kris015
Thank you. I'll give you guys some more info. And yes this might take a year to make, which is why we need a lot of people. What i meant by cutscenes were like when Uriel dies where you can't move. The cutscenes may not be needed so i'll remove that.
Slawter500
Cutscenes are fully workable. No idea how, but castle ravenpride played a video ingame. As for the type of cutscene you were describing, that is quite easily done. Even I could do that. Give a little, describe a few ideas for the guild, what does the guild do? Describe the first quest maybe? Also, my advice would be to scale it down a little, you can always develop later as you advance.
Argomirr
The cutscenes are easy to do. Just convert a video file to a BINK file, call PlayBink from a script and you've got a fancy cinematic clip. The downside is that the size of those files is enormous. There's really no way you can put in more than a few scenes without having a download several hundred MB large. Khet
On the otherhand, the Uriel death uses DisablePlayerControls that completely locks all player input, it's not a bik file. For the rest... what you ask is a huge undertaking. I respect that you want to do this, I really do, however more people doesn't always equal better. The more people there is, the more you have to be careful that they don't overlap eachother and start working on the same thing or in the same area. The more people there are the more problems that can arise from Person A saying Person B is doing less work than them, despite the fact that they're both say... doing a quest. Secondly, custom models and animations take a VERY long time. That's why most of our custom models use pre-existing animations with a few changes. Take Mart's Monster Mod for example. It adds a TON of "new creatures" but a lot of them are... the same models. Different textures. Many of them are just re-textured vanilla monsters. Also... where's the information? "A lot of dragons" and "A guild with a lot of quests" doesn't cut it. My mod adds "a lot of quests" from two entire main quests where the players actions can significantly affect the outcome, about eight sidequests (and still growing), an entirely new worldspace, books written just for the mod, dialogue, NPCs, a few custom items here and there; that's without new creatures or intensive scripting. So just saying "A lot of stuff" doesn't cut it with us. When it comes to modders... our work comes before YOUR work and ONLY if we're interested. Also, what do you have done? Nothing? Most modders won't help unless you've already shown progress. Start setting up some basic quests, interiors, worldspaces (if you need them), etc. before you ask for help. Sure, you might not know the CS, but neither did I when I started Evanore. I didn't know much about quests or scripting or dialogue or how to make an entire worldspace, but I did my research and now I know. I reverse engineered scripts at the start to do what I wanted them to do, then as I started to understand them more I started writing them from scratch and got more complicated in what they did. It's really not that hard to learn, it just takes time. So, before asking for us to take time out of our projects, give us something you've already worked on. Let us know what this mod means to YOU, by showing us that you've done most the work. Heck, you could even get ALL of the interior work done, exterior work, worldspaces... then say "Hey, I have ALL THIS already done, I just need someone to help with some quests and scripting along with some new models and animations" and you might get folks a bit more interested. Not trying to sound harsh with any of this... but modders do what we do for fun. We don't get paid. At least... I don't. So before you ask us to take time out of our own projects to work on yours... put some time into it first. Show us that you want it to succeed and you might find a few more people interested. aaront944
If you need a skilled writer fill me in, I can collaberate you at your purge for ideas and resolving standstills.Just give me a shout, I'll be happy to create bizarre or heroic NPC dialogue notes for your voice actors. Also fill me in on the entire concept of your plan here, because I do have some skepticism about this.If in all you would like me to plot events for different quests I'll do that as well. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I'll give out some names for characters. Noryis Feldone - NordIs a fellow merchant that resides in the basement quarters of the Guild's Hall.He sells all types of armour, along with great swords, shields, potions, ingredients and miscellaneous items. Noryis enjoys Jokes and Admiration, but will not redeem to the point of not selling you goods for your personality. Noryis is a great repairsman, and is extremely skilled with blunt.Lenatus Firolgus - ImperialIs a fellow member of the Guild. He guides you through a few quests before recommending you onto Inamigis Uksilion. Inamigis is skilled in the arts of marksman, blade, hand-to-hand, and blunt. He will give you your second recommendation in means to the Guild. Stikis Elbrood - Dark ElfA hard wrecked warrior: Stikis is one of your companions within the many quests you face in this Guild. He proves rather worthy of his consent to the Guild and will follow you to the end. When you complete the Guild questline you will have the option to obtain Stikis as a companion. Stikis is advanced in acrobatics, blade, block, restoration, and mysticism. Inamigis Uksilion - ImperialInamigis is your second "doyen", perhaps quest "giver" of the Guild. He embarks your fore upon tough quests. One of which involves the slaying of the dragon Helnok, where your completion of his death gives you the blade of Syruuk. Inamigis is skilled in blade, block, marksman, acrobatics, heavy armour, and restoration.Rutonus Hurildon - RedguardRutonus follows your upon a quest, guiding you through the ever mazed halls of Yeljikini Fort, host to undead Khajiit-like beings. He proves worthy of his doing to aid you and will address you to make him your companion. Though of course you can decline his offer, but will be able to have him follow you at any means of your doing. Rutonus is skilled in all magic types, as well blade, blunt, and block. He will heal you when your health is damaged. Hennius Stelbros - BretonHennius is the spell merchant of the guild. He offers a range of spells including very advanced, to much more useless spells. Every time you trade with him you will be healed and your fatigue, and mana will be regenerated. Hennius specializes in all magic types, and is very skilled with marksman. Schetik Nalikkus - Dark ElfSchetik is the first encounter you will see upon your entrance into the Guild. He gives you your first recommendation into the Guild, one of four you will need to obtain. Jysiali Le'kenuk - Khajiit"The Khajiit", as he is more commonly refered to around the Guild, sells many deadly poisons. All with a range of different, somewhat spontaneous, effects. Since he is a merchant of death, Jysiali dwells in the highest tower of the Guild Hall. He will give you your third recommendation once you have poisoned in eternal paralysis, his brother, who slayed their father. Walk-nor-tred Ulin - ArgonianWalk-nor-tred Ulin, for short "Wunt", plays a key role in the questline. He directs you through the great castle dungeon, from outside upon the riverbank where the sewer lays. The castle dungeon is dark and dreary, torches are an advised necessity. Wunt specializes in illusion, mysticism, alteration, block, blade, and security. He will give to you your fourth, and final recommendation once you have given him the Light of Yhakgetti. On recommendations:Each recommendation you obtain will be delivered to the head of the Guild. Once he receives four recommendations he will give you acceptance into the heirloom of his doing. You will discover who the leader is once you have completed the questline of the Guild. In which past you will obtain leading rights to the Guild.
