OBSE crashing on startup

So I just started trying to mod Oblivion. I installed OBSE and OBMM so I could get started, but ever since installing OBSE the game will not launch at all. I have tried starting the game via obse_loader and through OBMM and get the same result: My screen will go black for a second as if the game is going to start up, then a generic "oblivion.exe has encountered a problem and must close" error pops up. I haven't actually loaded any mods yet so I think this is just a problem with OBSE.

 

EDIT: Forgot to mention I'm running XP, if that makes any difference.

Try placing the OBSE loader in the start menu. If you don't know how to do this, right click on the OBSE loader in the Oblivion directory, seledct Pin To Start Menu.

 

Go to Start Menu, and click on the icon for the OBSE loader. Should start. That's what I do, and Oblivion Starts. It can take a few tris, but Oblivion always starts.

 

I'm not sure about the OBMM Oblivion Launcher. I haven't tried it all that often. I usually try the method I've described, because I'm running Oblivion XP.

I tried this and now get an error message saying "couldn't find Oblivion.exe, make sure you're running this from the same folder as your oblivion.exe"

 

Are you saying it works if you just keep trying it?

This is how I use obse...

extract all the files to desktop.

move the required parts to the oblivion root folder, this is the one that contains the data folder and your oblivion.exe.

right click on the obse_loader.exe

create shortcut

move shortcut to desktop.

use the shortcut to start game, not the oblivion.exe.

if it does not start then maybe you dont have the correct parts of the file in you root folder, these are (non steam)..

 

obse_1_2_416.dll

obse_editor_1_2.dll

obse_loader.exe

data folder (from obse file)

 

please note that your game must be patched to 1.2.416 or it will not work.
