guywithabiggun
I love your mods but man I don't get your hatred of the recent series of spartacus, It was brilliant, I'm guessing you just watched the shitty first episode because after the first few episodes the show is brilliant and the characters are wonderfully crafted. Granted it's not quite kubrick, but but it's one of the better TV series I've seen. Also yes please to the mod! Lore and plausibility can be bent a little when it comes to mods, that's the beauty of them.

Granted it's not quite kubrick, but but it's one of the better TV series I've seen. Also yes please to the mod! Lore and plausibility can be bent a little when it comes to mods, that's the beauty of them. It stems from my loathing of 300 and all its stylized offspring. They casually reduce antiquity to a mindless menagerie filled with spray-on sweat, slow-motion slashing, and ostentatious areolae, all written with a dilettante's regard for actual history or the incredible personalities that shaped the era. Furthermore, 300 effectively torpedoed Michael Mann's planned adaptation of Gates of Fire, and that alone has earned it my eternal enmity (I know it was already in development hell, but I don't care). HBO's Rome, on the other hand, had the usual salacity and bloodletting of cable serials, but it was largely reverent, if not faithful, to the spirit of the era, and succeeded in intelligently capturing the essence of its prime movers. Compare it to the shallow shittery bequeathed by Zack Snyder (I don't blame Frank Miller - I enjoyed the graphic novel, as it was original). Sorry, that show... and that film... touch a nerve with me. Glad you like the mods, though. :)
McclaudEagle
I thought the Spartacus TV show was OK, but that's about it. I think they did go over the top in regards to the blood. Rome was brilliant... ...THIRTEEN!
SayinNuthin
I thought the Spartacus TV show was OK, but that's about it. I think they did go over the top in regards to the blood. Rome was brilliant... ...THIRTEEN! Heh! There is nothing Americans cannot reduce to a soap-opera, no era so significant or portentous that it cannot be dragged down to the level of who's boffing who... Which might be one way of looking at history and that has some validity but... what a depressing outlook that amounts to. Which is why after watching the first series of Rome I wouldn't touch Spartacus with a Pilum. As for 300, It was a comic book  So it had put on a suit, slicked it's hair down and prefers the title Graphic Novel.. Yea.. fine, whatever.. A comic, made into a cartoon with live actors. Don't get me wrong I love comics and think animation is a fabulous artform but lets try not to take ourselves too seriously eh! "But it was racist!" So was 'Birth of a nation' and 'Triumph of the will' but they are both considered great works and studied by film students. 300 probably wasn't nearly as 'great' but it was a lot more fun.
