Long War for Mac OS/X - pointers / advice?

Hi Alex,

are you playing with trailing roulette? We've seen reports of it causing crashes. Unfortunately I don't know how to debug that, and AFAIK core LW devs do not have macs.

Generally, turning on autosave is a good idea :P

If the uninstaller isnt working, you can 'verify local files' in steam and wipe the config cache (in `~/Library/Application Support/Feral Interactive/XCOM Enemy Unknown/XEW/MacInit`) which should restore the game to its original unmodded state. The installer script is supposed to pick up whether it's called as ./uninstall or not, but possibly the name change wasn't picked up properly.

Ah yes I was playing with training roulette... I should have guessed that might have been a cause.

I used steam to delete the game and re-install it. Which was a very long and stupid process but now that it is almost done, i'll try LongWar again without training roulette. I assume it will work fine. I'll report back.

Ugh. OK, finder is creating some files in those directories that the install script doesn't know how to handle. To fix this, remove the .lw_install file from your game installation directory (probably '~Library/Application\ Support/Steam/SteamApps/common/XCom-Enemy-Unknown/')

Thank you that did the trick! Thanks a lot for your help.

I do have another question. When I start a new mission and I am in the loadout screen in the barracks no soldiers are selected. I have to manually add each one. This is a minor issue, but I have watched several let's plays of Long War and this doesn't seem to be the case for the players on youtube. is his an OSX glitch or am I having some setting checked?

Uninstaller is supposed to be a link to installer. Script is both installer and uninstaller and decides what to do based on file name. For Mac Anderkent made a full copy of install file instead, so I assumed link wasn't working properly under Mac and left it as it is, because it really makes no difference. At any rate, uninstaller should work properly if all the paths are correct. At least, it works properly under Linux. Edited by wghost81

Sorry I've been offline guys, IRL issues have been keeping me really busy for a while. I will try to roll a new version of the Mac installer this afternoon, which will hopefully alleviate the issues with trying to get the Linux one working on OS/X.

I was wondering if you could answer another question for me. I wanted to change the default look soldiers get when they get a spec. I followed these instructions:

DefaultGameCore.ini > This path: C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\SteamApps\common\XCom-Enemy-Unknown\XEW\XComGame\Config
; One-time deco color and headgear change upon selection of soldier class; set to -1 for no change. See Armor Kit codes text file in EW directory for acceptable values. Do not reorder these

  • HQ_BASE_POWER = 32 ; Sniper Color
  • HQ_BASE_POWER = -1 ; Sniper Headgear
  • HQ_BASE_POWER = 15 ; Scout Color
  • HQ_BASE_POWER = -1 ; Scout Headgear
  • HQ_BASE_POWER = 12 ; Rocketeer Color
  • HQ_BASE_POWER = -1 ; Rocketeer Headgear
  • HQ_BASE_POWER = 9 ; Gunner Color
  • HQ_BASE_POWER = -1 ; Gunner Headgear
  • HQ_BASE_POWER = 29 ; Medic Color
  • HQ_BASE_POWER = -1 ; Medic Headgear
  • HQ_BASE_POWER = 22 ; Engineer Color
  • HQ_BASE_POWER = -1 ; Engineer Headgear
  • HQ_BASE_POWER = 21 ; Assault Color
  • HQ_BASE_POWER = -1 ; Assault Headgear
  • HQ_BASE_POWER = 19 ; Infantry Color
  • HQ_BASE_POWER = -1 ; Infantry Headgear

I made some changes and changed the name of the original Dafaultgamecore.ini-backup, and added my new one. I got some promotions to check it out, but they did not end up wearing helmets like I expected. Did I do something wrong? Is this process different in OSX?
