Hey guys, same problem here, my terminal when I try to install: Name-MacBook-Pro:~ Name$ /Users/Name/Desktop/LW-EW-Linux-OSX-b15e/install-LW-OSX.sh

Installing Long War for XCOM:EW, please, be patient...

User files dir: /Users/NameLibrary/Application Support/Feral Interactive/XCOM Enemy Unknown/XEW

\e[0;31mOld version of Long War found. Keep savegames?\e[0m (y/n)y

keeping savegames

uninstalling old version now

found old Long War backup in /Users/Name/Library/Application Support/Steam/SteamApps/common/XCom-Enemy-Unknown/backup_oldLW or /Users/Name/Library/Application Support/Feral Interactive/XCOM Enemy Unknown/XEW/backup_oldLW

\e[0;31mremove old Long War backup files?\e[0m (y/n)y

Removing old Long War backup and all its content...

mv: rename /Users/Name/Library/Application Support/Steam/SteamApps/common/XCom-Enemy-Unknown/XComData/XEW//.DS_Store to /Users/Name/Library/Application Support/Steam/SteamApps/common/XCom-Enemy-Unknown/backup_oldLW/.DS_Store: No such file or directory

I have tried to follow the basic guide, but it's mac installation instructions are confusing for me and I also don't have the containers/com.feralinteractive.xcom folder.

The .DS_Store thing seems to be the major issue, how do I fix it? I've spent most of the last two days trying to deal with it. Exhausted every method I can think of but I've very limited in my computer skills. Thanks all.

The installer found the files from an older version of LW, and tried to "move" them to a new folder, but failed to find the old folder ".../XEW//.DS_Store". The "//" syntax is probably a typo in the script you can fix yourself (to "/XEW/.DS_Store") after verifying the actual folder path does exist. OR you can run the LW uninstall script or manually remove the LW remnants.

The absence of the "containers/com.feralinteractive.xcom" folder is another matter. Best to ask wghost81 (who wrote the script) how to deal with it in a PM. The script may already account to it being missing, but you won't know until you get past the "no such file or directory" error.

As for the Mac installation instructions being confusing: The basic instructions are for a Steam install. The LW installer script is the same for all versions, but if you have a "non-Steam" version of XCOM, then you have to change the path of where the game is installed and where the "user files" are located to match that of the Mac version of XCOM you bought. The path for the App Store version is different than that from other sources. Each version should have an equivalent to the paths used by Steam. The "Basic Guide" has what we know about those differences. But you have to figure out what your equivalences are.

The development team does not have access to any Macs. (Neither do I.) What we know has come from other Mac users. This thread has the most such user advice in that regard. You may need to do some digging.

I have the exact same problem now! I am trying to uninstall b14 so I can install b15e, but when I select "y" for "remove old Long War backup files" I get the same error. If i select "n" then the script just ends and nothing changes in my game. Did you ever find a fix to this problem?

Thanks

It appears this is a problem with the installer generated "uninstall script". That is specific to "Long War" (LW) for the Mac. (And I should mention to give credit where due: The installer was originally written by thither.)

Long War bug reports should be posted in the appropriate Beta Feedback thread in the "Long War" download page "forum section" for a quick response. (The LW Team has stated they don't check the main forum at all anymore for problems. "Mod Talk" is about developing mods; not troubleshooting them. Really, the dev team is the most likely to be able to help with a LW issue but anyone else who can also will be there.) You may also find that the answer is already known and posted in that thread.

Be sure to read the document included with the LW download on reporting bugs. They need all the information requested there to be able to help. If they can't reproduce the problem, they can't fix it.

While the LW installer handles any code modifications for you, it is still necessary to prepare your system for mods as laid out in the wiki article "Basic Guide to installing mods" (even for Macs/Linux). The "Environment" section in particular still applies to LW.

As a last resort you can try "reverting to vanilla". However, note the separate instructions about "save game files". But it would be better for everyone to work with the devs to figure what is wrong with the uninstaller script.

FYI: I've asked the moderators to move this thread to the LW "forums section" linked above, so if it appears to have vanished: look there.

Hello again,

App store version of XCOM

I was hoping that with the new version of I could actually play some long war. What happened this time around is actually exactly what happened to first time I tried to install Long War.

1. On the title screen everything seems to be in order

2. New game: normal classic brutal impossible

Advance setting: tutorials disabled (but the meld tutorials is check marked)

Other settings seem correct

3. Can only pick from five continents each with a slightly changed number for their benefit

4. Start the mission with six soldier who all have the xcom vanilla standard issue rifle and exactly one 1 frag grenade.

(this is where is starts getting weird)

5. Each soldier blue move is extended into the distance to the point it might be infinite, the yellow move is also the same insane size, allows you to run from one side of most maps to the other and back in a single turn.

6. Soldiers aim is around 1% for most shots, steady weapon brings it up to 11%. When a soldier stands directly next to a Sectoid their aim% is max 39% (before steady weapon).

7. Only Sectoids on the first mission

8. Grenades explode in what seems to be bigger then a shredder missile AoE

9. Soldier promoted into the traditional 4 class system with some different starting abilities (squad sight for snipers)

9a. (unconfirmed this install but remembered from last install) soldiers can not pick new abilities after leveling up again, instead the options are questions marks that can not be selected.

10. After restarting the game turns reverts to vanilla EW.

I have a guess as to what is happening (and there isn't even a good chance that it are correct).

I know that the "phone home" option is very important to turn off, and I also know that it will revert you game... I am wondering that since this is the App store version is there instead something else I have to turn off? For example my game normally connects to the "game center" could this be causing the problems in long war?

Update: After game restart Classes reset to normal after restart, all soldiers have will 301 and aim 1.... until I figure out whats going on I'm going to play in this insane mode.... so many grenades will be used.

I would guess that to be a corrupted install. When you get frustrated with those handicaps, try reverting to vanilla and install again. Otherwise check the LW download page "forums" section linked above. Pretty sure that has been reported before.

Lol it was fun until a terror mission.

But now I can't get the uninstall to work :-/

It when through the whole process and even told me to restart the game, but there are still long war parts in there... i.e. says long war instead of new game... and the difficulties are long war.
