HELP: combining clothing items and exporting to Fallout 3.

Ok, so I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong. I've been trying to combine 2 different outfits with the new version of the Cali body and I can't seem to get it to work. Basically, I'm combining them in Blender and exporting them but they won't show up properly in-game.

So here was my process:

Step 1: Imported skeleton.nif file without any problems.

Step 2: selected the entire skeleton in object mode

Step 3: "Import Geometry Only + Parent To Selected Armatures" for Cali Body mesh.

Step 4: "Import Geometry Only + Parent To Selected Armatures" For the first mesh.

Step 5:"Import Geometry Only + Parent To Selected Armatures" for the second mesh.

Step 6: Selected the skeleton and went into pose mode to test the rigging to make sure that everything had parented properly.

Step 7: Exported as a nif with Fallout 3 Selected.

Step 8: Opened it up in NIFSkope to make sure everything was ok and to apply new textures.

Step 9: Saved file into Fallout 3 Meshes Directory.

However, when I open it in the GECK, the outfit appears to be flying somewhere up in the air and is not sitting on the character and the character appears as a head and no body? What the crap?

Is there something I missed?

Here's how I do it:

Import everything you want, don't click those 'import x only' buttons.

Once it's all in, delete everything you don't want. Including the armatures/skeletons.

Select all by type -> mesh

Import your skeleton, and select 'import skeleton only + parent to selected geometry'.

Select the skeleton/armature only and export nif.

Do what you need to do in nifskope, if anything. I always have to fix the skin shaders.

Right click on your nif and go to view, this will open it in geck so you can see if you have suitably completed the correct arcane rituals. If it shows up correctly here, you are most likely good to see it in game.

Good luck.

So the outfit appears to still be floating above the NPC within GECK after following your instructions. There are NO other skeletons other than the one I used. Was I supposed to delete the completed skeleton before I exported out? Could I be missing anything in NIFSkope?

If I view just the outfit without it on the NPC, I can see it as a flat 2D image floating near the camera view if I pan out far enough. What's up with this?

I'm also using the default Fallout 3 settings when I export. Is there anything I need to change before I export the mesh?

HOLY CRAP I AM at the point of pulling my hair out. I have worked on this for 3-4 days with only a few hours of work and sleep in between, reading tutorials, exporting and re-importing over and over and over again, re-installing programs over and over, re-installing scripts, re-installing nifskope.... what am I doing wrong?

I can't even copy and paste block data from one nif to another without the GECK crashing!

If I import into blender and then export with a parented skeleton, I get pieces of the mesh all over the fricken place, if I delete the skeleton and export the mesh, the mesh shows up but won't equip on characters, if I test in pose mode, everything works fine.... if I check in nif skope, everything looks fine other than a weird number next to the nodes.

Any help please?

I am also noticing the Root nodes in NIFSkope have a value of 10. It's strange that I can't even copy branches over without problems.

Thanks, I'll re-export it again and get some screenshots and send them to you! I appreciate the help man.
