suggestions on photoshop?

I personally use CS3, I don't know how it is for price but it gets the job done quick and easy, moving onto CS6 which is a lot more expensive than 3 but I imagine it does more, having not used any others though CS3 is the way to go from me!

I'd suggest getting the last version available as a stand-alone download. The subscription version is great (I use it myself) but unless Photoshop is actually bringing money into the household you probably don't want to be paying a monthly fee for it. Plus I don't think any of the new features are really helpful for texturing but I can't 100% swear to it because I don't feel like looking up the new feature list right now.
