Oblivion on hard-drive

Hello everyone,

I always have a hard time finding my Oblivion DVD in my messy house. I sometimes lend it to someone else (we share the game) and than he loses it too. So that's quite some work.

Now I know I should just clean up my house, but I was wondering whether or not it was possible to copy the files from the DVD to the computer, so I wouldn't need the DVD to play (like with Fallout 3). I'd like to know:

  1. Is it illegal to do so, even if you own the game?
  2. Which files do you need?
  3. To what folder do you need to copy them?
  4. What in the config file do you have to change?

Thanks!

It is possible to run Oblivion from your HDD.

Making a "backup" copy of your own disk is legal, "loaning it to a friend" is the part Bethesda would have a problem with.

You need third-party software to both copy and run the disk.

You have to copy the entire disk.

But I think it would be a bad idea to tell you how, here.

Do some searching on Google.

I have copying software, but not really high-quality, and I'm sure Oblivion is well secured.

But then again, I would just lose this copy too. I need a copy on my harddrive. Would it be good to make an 'image' of the file? How would I have to let my Oblivion software know the software is on my harddrive? I'm not that good with .ini files.

"Sharing" your Oblivion CD with your buddy is not a good idea if you two have the game installed on your computers at the same time...legal problems.
