Help with Fawkes and Broken Steel

Guys,

Came back to retry this game after playing through the unmodified original. Played Morrowind, and Oblivion and was really looking forward to modding FO3, I followed the guide on here about how to add in all the overhaul mods and the DLC and get them to work together. Well the game has been working well enough, occasionally a crash. However I have gotten to the main control room in project purity and it is time to activate it. Now Fawkes is refusing to do it, I have BS installed, so any thoughts as to what gives? I had my character do it, but the game crashes after the video right when "2 weeks later" is suppose to begin.

First of all Fonger, thank you for your replies, I appreciate the help!

 

The game has had many crash issues most come when I switch cells, ie going through a door etc. However some rare freezes or crashes come in open spaces. I just deal with it by quick saving often.

 

The crash and error that I'm complaining about and looking to solve here comes as follows:

 

My char has made it to the end of project purity. He is going to the radiated chamber (the end of the original game) I'm trying to get fawkes do it it, but he keeps saying "I...companion.. no" refusing, so I go in there, the game ends, and I suppose where BS is suppose to load and start with the "Two Week Later..." after the picture of you and your Dad the game crashes instead of loading BS.

Is it possible that the fix Fonger listed is correct and I would have to start a new game? (That would stink)

I've had the same issue. On the loading screen just after the storyteller does his thing, the game crashes and it does it in a bit of an odd way. The crash is instantaneous meaning it has no delay or audio skipping. I don't have nearly the amount of mods as you do, however, so I believe that may be ruled out.

 

I just patched the game and tried again (without starting a new save) to no avail. Can there really be only two people in all of the world with this problem?

I'm sure I keep replying to this thread but my posts don't seem to appear, try disabling FOOK2 and see if anything happens when its not on, for some reason it doesn't like DLC or it didn't for me anyways, just an idea but might aswell try it. Hope it works!

Im kinda having the same problem except i can go into the chamber and send my companions into the chamber, its just that after the cut scene is done, at the part where it is supposed to show your picture of you and your dad, it takes me back to the control room. It dosnt go to broken steel, it just sits there and i cant move. I waited for a long time, but it just stayed that way. Kinda puts a boring ending on an exciting life of fighting the enclave, building settlements (download Real Time Settler, it is BEAST), taking over alien ships and killing a bunch of mutated hillbillies. Thought it would go out with a bang as i bomb the hell out of the crawler. If you can help post it here or at my thread "Cant get past Fallout 3 ending to go to Broken Steel" (great title right?). If you can help me or need some info so you can help me please post.

I may have read that it's a computer dependent issue. Someone copied their save to another computer and got past the crashing point. They then copied the save back and played through perfectly fine. It's also notable that he had trouble with the level cap notification and used the same method to overcome it. I'm running a pirated version so it's tough to install the game to a different PC. I don't suppose anyone would want to try the method and post any results?
