xxXEvandarXxx Posted March 30, 2010 Posted March 30, 2010 I have been getting some weird static noise (I'm not sure if that's the correct word) on my monitor lately. It looks almost like the kind of stuff you'd see on a TV with no signal, like thishttp://www.istockphoto.com/file_thumbview_approve/4783663/2/istockphoto_4783663-analogue-tv-static-television-white-noise.jpg It started when the monitor cable fell out of the DVI port on the graphics card (damn loose screws) and I put it back in while the PC was on. It's most noticable when the image is dark or black and it's very annoying :( I've tried removing and reconnecting the cable several times but it didn't help. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to fix this?
CommanderCrazy Posted March 31, 2010 Posted March 31, 2010 I put it back in while the PC was onCould be your problem.Try turning it off, disconnecting & reconnecting the cable at both ends & record results.
bben46 Posted March 31, 2010 Posted March 31, 2010 Look for bent, broken or pushed in pins in the connectors while you have it disconnected. Also, unplug the power from the computer and reseat the video card. (unplug and replug it) Make sure it is seated all the way into the slot. If you can, try another cable. If that doesn't work, try another monitor. If swapping both the cable & monitor don't fix it, its most likely the video card.
xxXEvandarXxx Posted March 31, 2010 Author Posted March 31, 2010 I looked at the connector and a pin has indeed been pushed in. Could I drag it out with a tweezer or something, or do I new a new cable? Thanks
CommanderCrazy Posted March 31, 2010 Posted March 31, 2010 Ooooooooooh. Bad. If you pull it out with tweezers it can damage it further, so a new cable is recommended.

LHammonds Posted April 1, 2010 Posted April 1, 2010 You might be able to get it working this time but if you ever unplug and re-plug it again, it might come loose even easier. Be careful...and always remember to have all power off when plugging and unplugging "powered" equipment on the PC. Some devices are hot-swappable, others are not...treat it like a gun...assume it is always loaded and you won't go wrong. LHammonds
xxXEvandarXxx Posted April 1, 2010 Author Posted April 1, 2010 Alright, I'll just get a new cable then. Thanks for the help people :)
bben46 Posted April 1, 2010 Posted April 1, 2010 Cables are cheap. Video boards and monitors are expensive.
