Player Stupidity And The Mages' Guild

Okay, so I'm at the one Mages' Guild mission in those Ayelid ruins where you have to bring that pillar in the middle of the room down to expose the staircase inside it. I figured out the first part with the inscriptions and which spells they meant, but I cast the spells from the provided scrolls in entirely the wrong order and was stupid enough to save after I used them all up. So now I have no idea where to get another Enervate Magicka or Sever Magicka scroll, the pillar is halfway down and I have no way of finishing the stupid quest. I've been looking all over for others of those scrolls, but with no luck--can someone please help me out?

Under other circumstances this would just mean that I would play my thief character until I found the answer, but that game is stuck as well--I'm on the final mission to break into the Imperial Palace and so I'm in the sewers looking for the Old Way, but I've come to the Sunken Sewer doors which will, for some reason, not let me through without a key that I don't seem to have. Is this a bug or have I missed something?

For the mage guild quests, just get a spell or those two effects.

For one, go to Edgar Vautrine, in Edgar's Discount Spells: Imperial City Market District and buy Fortify Magicka. For the other, travel to Skingrad and vist Sulinus Vassinus in the mage's guild for Sever Magicka. Make a fortify Magicka spell on target, for one point and name it somehting so it will not clutter up your spell listing too much. Then you should be able to contuine on with your quest.

You will need to be a journeyman in Destruction magic for this to work however.

I dont remember where, but I heard something somewhere about the spells being in the same room as the person on the upper level. I dont know about you guys but every time I leave, there is a Wraith whenever I come back and the only quick way I can kill it is using my staff of lightning, which uses up the charge really quick. Thats a pain because I dont have enough money to charge it back up.

As Theta pointed out to me, all the spells you need are in the chest next to the guy who does the translating. And Adras you can use the Varla stones to recharge your items mid fight. Unless you sold them all!

There is no bug at this point in the thieves guild quest you must have gone the wrong way somewhere.

(A bit off topic, but...) I had read that you can recharge them with the Varla Stones, but I have not found any. Just the Weykland Stones (or however they are spelled). Is there a certain place to look for them? I know they Weykland stones recharge your magicka.

Varla Stones are found in almost all Ayleid ruins. They are usually under covers that have to be lifted by pushing a stone in. Sometimes the buttons are hard to find (in Nenyond Twyll you must look for two buttons under water and in one other ruin - I forget which - you have to go up on one of the traps into the ceiling.) A few smaller ruins, like Telepe, do not have them.
