Trouble with FCOM, Wrye Bash, and BOSS (all related)

Retribution

Recommended Posts

I just did an install of FCOM on a clean install of Oblivion. I meticulously followed http://devnull.sweetdanger.net/fcominstall.html. When I use BOSS, it doesn't show me a text file of all the problems and stuff, but it does sort my load order correctly for OBMM. However, when I open Wrye Bash, my load order is all messed up. I don't have the Lock Times option selected. After I create a bashed patch, make sure my load order is perfect in OBMM, and try to start a new game, I CTD. My CTD can be either before the video of the emperor speaking, right after it, or after I create my character. Here's my load order:

Oblivion.esm

Francesco's Leveled Creatures-Items Mod.esm

Francesco's Optional New Items Add-On.esm

Oscuro's_Oblivion_Overhaul.esm

Mart's Monster Mod.esm

FCOM_Convergence.esm

Unofficial Oblivion Patch.esp

Unofficial Shivering Isles Patch.esp

Francesco's Optional Chance of Stronger Bosses.esp

Francesco's Optional Chance of Stronger Enemies.esp

Francesco's Optional Chance of More Enemies.esp

Francesco's Optional Leveled Guards.esp

FCOM_Francescos.esp

FCOM_FrancescosItemsAddOn.esp

FCOM_FrancescosNamedBosses.esp

Bob's Armory Oblivion.esp

FCOM_BobsArmory.esp

Oblivion WarCry EV.esp

FCOM_WarCry.esp

Oscuro's_Oblivion_Overhaul.esp

FCOM_Convergence.esp

FCOM_RealSwords.esp

Knights.esp

Bashed Patch, 0.esp

I noticed an ESP that wasn't mentioned anywhere in the FCOM installation page. Its name is DLCShiveringIsles.esp, and it's an official esp, by mcdyer. I don't know whether to enable it or not, or where it goes in my load order.

Thanks in advance.

You're running the Shivering Isles unofficial patch without Shivering Isles... that could be the (or a) reason.

Shivering Isles is an Official DLC (downloadable content) by Bethesda. Since you don't know what it is you probably got the GOTY edition of Oblivion.

As for Boss not working, dunno what to say about that one.

If you are running Vista and have installed Oblivion in the Program files, then that is why BOSS isn't working. To fix this you must turn off UAC before you run BOSS. To do this use Run ad type in 'msconfig' without the 's. Next click on Tools and scroll down to Disable UAC. You can turn it back on after running BOSS, unless you are wanting to make a few more changes before. If you don;t want to have to keep doing that, then do a clean install of Oblivion anywhere other then the Program Files.

Actually I think with UAC enabled mods won't work at all. Not 100% sure since disabling it was the first thing I did after Vista.

with an FCOM install though, it's probably because you're missing something or the load order is just screwed up. Get BOSS working, if you still CTD take a closer look at the install guide to make sure you're not missing required .esps for FCOM.

Well, I got Oblivion working perfectly, disabling UAC did it. I then installed All Natural Weather, OBSE 0018 (All Natural requires it) and OBGE2. Oblivion stopped working. I have now removed everything having to do with those mods, and reinstalled the latest stable version of OBSE, but it still doesn't work. Looks like I'm going to have to start over.

You have to run Oblivion through the obse launcher instead of the Oblivion Loader. obse v18 works fine, and have heard no one ever complain about it. If that doesn't fix the problem, try removing obge2, because I doubt All Natural would cause that unless you installed it wrong.
