Playable black screen when in widescreen resolution

Howdy

 

I've got a strange problem.

 

I have a widescreen monitor. However, whenever I select a widescreen resolution, the game gives me a black screen w/ HUD and crosshair. I can still play, but all is black.

 

This problem doesn't occur as long as I am in a fullscreen resolution. In those cases, however, the image is stretched out on my widescreen monitor.

 

I'm running with Oldblivion and a conservative number of compatible mods.

 

Anyone run into something similar before?
