Corehound
Hey all. This is a compilation of my personal advises posted in the "DAO-Modmanager" mod "Comments" section. Some ppl have found some of these tips very useful, so you might too. All the "comments" have been copy pasted in to this post without any editing so there might be small fractions of text with no relevance to the advise itself, so just ignore them. All names have been deleted and replaced with "XXXXX" to not implement anyone else in this post. Anyway I hope you find any useful tips here that, if not solving your problems, might give you an idea on how to do it. ____________________________________________________ ----- Posted 22 March 2010 - 07:37 PM @ XXXXX This might have to do with the downloader, I have the same problem sometimes, to fix it just type in ".dazip" after the mod name when you save the download to your computer, however you must be sure that the mod actually is a .dazip file, cause if not then it can bug the modmanager. Side note: Should you by mistake bug your modmanager in this way, the only way to fix it is to go to the dazip folder and delete the file manually from there, the mod window on the modmanager itself might appear as completely blank, as if no mods are added, this is however only a visually bug and the installed mods will reappear as soon as the faulty mod is removed from the folder, so don't freak out if this happens hehe. Also in case ppl haven't noticed this, the open area at the bottom half of the modmanager can be used to manage all installed and not installed mods, both .dazip and .override, I can highly recommend starting by adding all the mods you want to install to this window first and then install them from there. Furthermore this will also make it easier to uninstall and reinstall your mods, cause when you uninstall the mods they will still be available from this window instead of you having to get them from an external folder if you want to reinstall the mod again at a later point. With regards Corehound "Cry havoc and let slip the Corehound of war!" ----- Posted 24 March 2010 - 06:05 PM @ With install problems Massive files like the "Natural Bodies All in One" mod can take a really long time to install, for those with "Windows" you might even get a "Not responding" warning in the top bar of the window, just ignore this, this is just a faulty error message on Microsoft's side, in this case it simply just means that you can't interact with the window and NOT that the program is crashed. For slow computers the installing of mods like "NBaio" might even take as long as 30 seconds, but until you get a "pop-up" saying "DAO-Modmanager has stopped working" the program is STILL working and in the progress of installing. I'd advise you not to work with anything else on your computer while mods like these are installing, cause if an install takes too long to finish, it will "Time-out" and the install will be cancelled by your computer. Other types of crashes might only just require you to close the DAO-Modmanager and start it up again. Anyway I hope this advise will help some (if not all) of you to get over this hurtle :0) With regards Corehound "Cry havoc and let slip the Corehound of war!" ----- Posted 25 March 2010 - 06:08 PM @ XXXX Actually it's quite simple to make the overrides yourself, I only ever use this manager to add mods to the game and never the bla/bla/bla/core/override way. The process is simple: 01 - Click on the "Override Creator" 02 - Then click on "New Override Packet" 03 - Type in whatever name you want or simply copy paste the mod name into the title space and hit "OK" (ofc) 04 - You'll now have several options for adding "Version" / "GameVersion" / "Publisher" and so on, these are NOT in any way required to be fill out, so just leave them blank for now. At this point you need to make sure you click on the folder in the "folder-path-window" (Bottom left corner) which has the name that you just created for the override (!WARNING! make sure it's the folder at the very bottom of the folder-tree and not the one that branches out from "Modules"). 05 - Now drag all the files from the mod you want to create an override for, into the window with the lines (Bottom right window). If the mod you want to add has several folders within the main mod folder, do NOT extract the files themselves into the window without the folder, instead add the entire folders as they are, otherwise there might occur errors in the mod. 06 - Now just click the "Create Override Packet" at the top of the mod window and wait till the manager has finished building the override, for small mods this will most likely be an instant process, but larger ones might take a few seconds. You can easily see when it is done processing the packet, if you are not sure then just keep an eye on the "New Override Packet", "Edit Override Packet" titles, they will be turned active once the packet has been completed :) 07 - Now go to the "Mods" section of the modmanager and your new override should be displayed in the bottom window of the modmanager. From here you can either "right-click" on the mod and select "Install" or simply drag it from there to the "Installed Overrides" window and vola! your mod is installed :) The best part of this manager is that if you for one reason or another want to uninstall the mod, you will not lose the override when uninstalling it, it will instead return to the bottom window and be available to be installed again at a later time should you so desire ^^ With very best regards Corehound "Cry havoc and let slip the Corehound of war!" ----- Posted 26 March 2010 - 06:42 PM @ XXXXX Okay I'm not completely sure what XXXXX's answer to you, it's been awhile since I last used my German, but I think I got the basics of what was said hehe. In any case the thing you mention about the program giving you an error message that say you need to, as you said: "go forward (without doing anything after) or quit the program" I have experienced that allot myself, though I have only had it popup when I have been trying to create an override with a "Configure" option, which I have still not been able to do xD When you get a message like this, in most cases, there is no other way to go about this then completely removing the override and build it again from scratch. If you want to make completely sure it is deleted, start by uninstalling it and also "right-click-delete" it if you have it in the bottom window, BUT!, in cases like these where there is a bug involved, then before you delete it, "right-click" the mod and click on "Open folder", once the window opens just "minimize" it and return to the DAO-Modmanager window, now "right-click-delete" the mod from the manager, when this is done go to the window you opened with the "Open folder" option and double check that the override in fact has been deleted, it has to be said that I have only twice b4 actually experienced that the file didn't delete properly, but better safe than sorry :) But just to be safe b4 you delete the mod I have to ask: did you make sure to uninstall the mod from the "Installed Overrides" window, b4 you tried to edit it? It doesn't always cause a problem if you don't, but sometimes it can. @ XXXX What mod are you trying to build an override for? @ XXXXX As I have said b4 I am a major fan of your mod, so I am always happy to be able to help whenever I can :) With very best regards Corehound "Cry havoc and let slip the Corehound of war!" ----- Posted 30 March 2010 - 07:39 PM @ XXXXXMy "comment" at [18:37, 22 March 2010] in this mod's comment section might help explain the bug you are experiencing. Also my comment at [17:42, 26 March 2010] might help with a complete removal of an installed mod on the manager, it's sort of a double-check uninstalling and though that subject is in regards to the removal of overrides, the same process can be used for .dazips, but in this case when it's a bug in the window so you can't see the dazips, you need to set the options in the bottom window to "List" and "Show installed dazips", this window should be able to display the installed dazips that you can't see in the main window and from here you can delete the mods, if you don't know which one has caused the bug you might have to approach it systematically and remove them one by one and open and close the modmanager after each mod has been removed to refresh the mod window. Just to be clear, I don't know if the bug you are experiencing is caused by what my solution is aimed at, so it has to be used at own risk, but as you describe it, it appears to be what I have experienced myself :0) With best regards Corehound "Cry havoc and let slip the Corehound of war!" _______________________________________________________ Well that was about it and again I hope this might help ppl solve some of their problems if not giving an idea on how to go about it  I might be back to check up on this post to answer any questions, but can't promise anything at this time  With best regards Corehound "Cry havoc and let slip the Corehound of war!" _______________________________________________________ PLEASE BE AWARE THAT THESE POSTS HAVE BEEN MADE BY ME PERSONALLY AND NOT BY THE ACTUAL CREATERS OF THE MOD IN QUESTION, SO DON'T BOTHER THEM WITH ANY QUESTIONS IN REGARDS TO THE POST UNLESS THEY THEMSELVES ADD COMMENTS IN THIS POST OR IN ANY OTHER WAY INVITE YOU TO DO SO.
